Am purchasing a new notebook computer with a 100MhZ DX4 (486), 24 MB of RAM, CD-ROM, and 720 MB (replacable) HD. This will be my development environment. Manufacturer claims the unit will do 800×600 on the internal screen, but on the chance it doesn't, what would be the effect of having a 640×480 screen for working with the Visual Reality Suite? Thanks, Ewan Grantham grantham@MR.Net or 74123,2232 Editor of RADIUS – A Magazine of Future Fiction and Fact Ewan Grantham & Associates "Innovation in Information"

Hi Ewin: You must have an 800×600 256 color display to run Visual Reality. If it detects less it won't run. Nick Josephs Visual Software

Ewan – Pardon me for butting in, but – 640 X 480 is the default resolution for the Renderize Live portion of VR and it works just fine. Screen resolution does not seem to be of great concern to VR – output resolution is the key. Screen resolution is just good enough so you can see what the image will generally look like on output. You can pump it up, but with sacrifice in image-rendering time. BTW, that's quite some notebook you've got, there. — gtm —

>>640 X 480 is the default resolution for the Renderize Live portion of VR<< Not so, George. You're talking about the Renderize viewport resolution. Ewan is talking about video display resolution. You must have at least 800x600x256 colors to run Renderize Live. Nick Josephs Visual Software

Nick – Quite so. Egg-on-face disease strikes again. Thanks for the correction. But Ewan said the manufacturer claimed 800X600 "internal screen," which sounded to me like a reference to the video card. Oh, well … But boy, that IS a heck of a hot-rod notebook he's got, there. — gtm —
