Anouncement about M2S
Things have changed for M2S and M2Sprint. The original owners of M2S have been
bought out by Preferred Technologies Inc.
Preferred technologies is a new company specializing in Amiga hardware and
software. During the coming months the company will also be selling a SCSI
Hard card, a DigiView look-alike, an external floppy drive, a hand scanner and
an audio digitizer.
M2Sprint will now be sold through distributors. This is a plus for the
original purchasers of M2S. With many more people purchasing the M2Sprint
environment there will be a larger community of programmers that will ensure a
long life for this package. Tell your friends to look for M2Sprint on sale
from your local Amiga distributor and through mail order companies.
I, Dan Brookshier, will continue to provide software support on Bix and
Compuserve.
Version 2.0 has been temporarily delayed. As soon as arrangements have been
made, information about 2.0 will be made available. Until then, bugs in the
library modules will be posted on Bix and Compuserve as usual.
Preferred Technologies is staffed by people who believe in the Amiga. They
plan to continue to support the Amiga community with quality hardware and
software products.

Can you tell us who's behind Preferred Technologies? Is this new company
formed from people who've been at other Amiga companies? How many Amiga
companies are there in that end of Texas?
At the moment, I have only two names. They are: Mark Henry and Tom Dow.
From what I got from a quick phone call from Mark is that they have only
been around for a couple of weeks. The empoyees in the company have all
been involved with the Amiga with other products. I do not know what yet. I
will be talking with the company in a couple of weeks because that is when
my contract with the old M2S terminates.
BTW Texas seems to be a center o Amiga activity. We have a lot of
developers and distributers in Dallas and the surounding area. Betty Clay
has the full list. The ones I can remember are: Avant Guard sw
(Benchmark), Preferred Technologies Inc. (M2Sprint) , developers of CanDo,
developers of TeleGames, etc. etc. The list goes forever.
Betty, can you put up a complete list of developers in Texas?

Tom Dow used to work for another Amiga distributor, didn't he? Just trying
to see where people are moving to… there seems to be a lot of
restructuring happening in the market. I've seen very little discussion
about the trend of Amiga companies dissolving.
Tom Dow used to work for Preferred Marketing, I think.

I am told that Tom Dow used to run Southern Technologies. Hearsay- I don't
know him.

Considering the way Southern Technologies hurt so many developers, and how
no one there is willing to take responsibility, and how so many developers
will never get paid… I'll take a wait and see attitude about Preferred
Technologies.
Perhaps I should not have spoken. I am not sure this is the same person – just
was told that at a club meeting. I'll wait with you.
I've since heard some real nasty stories about the evolution and
de-evolution of Southern and Preferred. Gads. there is certainly some
interbreeding going on. It's one thing for someone to fleece someone else,
but it takes a certain kind of slime to attempt it again on the same set of
victims – the Amiga community.

Even though I live right here, and even though I knew one of their salesmen, I
really knew almost nothing about Southern Technologies, and did not meet any of
the people in charge. I know that they left lots of people in bad ways,
though.

Tom Dow used to run Southern Tech. We got burned, like a lot of other people.
Later (as I'm sure you know) Southern Technologies re-emerged as Newbeck
purchased them.

Sorry, Dan, but I do NOT have a complete list. I can list New Horizons,
MicroSearch, SunRize, Byte by Byte, and could probably come up with a few
more, given time.
