#movie quality
5 messages in this thread
Am I missing something? Whenever I render a movie, the quality is really bad.
Both the start and finish frames, and everything in between are very
blocky/grainy. I mean the morph's are excellent, but they just don't look
professional quality.
Any help on settings (what and where) or if this is as good as it gets, would
be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Sam
Sam,
Grainy output could be coming from several places.
1) the video compressor you're using is likely the largest culpret. Many
of them compress video by discarding individual pixel's values to create
blocks of the same color which compress better.
The cinepak and indeo encoders (at their highest quality settings) are
no where near as chunky as the microsoft compressors.
2) chunky results could occur if you render your output at a very small
size and then display the resulting small images with a zoomed up display
setting. The standard video player can be set to default to a zoom by 2,
for example.
3) chunky movement (which might be described as chunky results) can occur
when you disable the anti-aliasing routines from the Render Options dialog.
Make sure all those check boxes in the lower left of the dialog are checked
(on).
4) and the last source of grainy output which comes immediately to mind is,
of course, grainy input. Something else to mention…if your A roll image is
say 320 by 240, and your B roll image is smaller, like 120 by 80 or 160 by 120
then it will be scaled up to match the A roll. Like in case 2) above, when
scaling up, it is possible for things to look more grainy.

Granularly yours
Jason, it must be a *real* change for you guy's. With the SGI program you are
selling a few hundred copies, and I bet you knew each one individually. Must be
a completely different mind set to selling thousands to guys like us who have
no experience but a *lot* of enthusiasum.

Ken,
True, very true. Both types of customers are very important to us. And,
each has benefited from the input of the other. We consider ourselves
very lucky to see both sides of the industry. And, we're proud of the
fact that products like ours are helping to bring about a convergence
of the professional and desktop system. This "convergence" is something
our company president is asked to speak alot about at various trade shows
and conventions.
