#Test project
21 messages in this thread
Hi Donald, Sanford, John, David, Don, Angela, etc…,
I may be going ahead with a small Main Street project like I've mentioned
before. It could be viewed as a portal world and/or a test case for this type
of project. I will be soliciting very basic meshes of buildings, vehicles,
life forms, etc. that will be made available to the public via the Showcase
StudioCity library. The city plan will be very small, maybe 5 blocks by 5
blocks. No charter, just a very detailed set of instructions, the base .mli,
the base .prj file (city plan), etc. All mesh files will be open to the public
once approved by myself for merging compatability (sysops said they would give
me/us access to a "preview" area of the library). Then we can test it with the
NAVIGATOR, etc.
I'm not asking for space requests or anything now, and don't wish to dive
in heavy again in the main StudioCity project planning, unless it directly
relates to the needs of Main Street.

Donald, I'll probably be in Mpls this weekend. Maybe we could meet to
discuss naming/merging needs? Are you free?

Paul,
<<Test project>>
Push on, Paul! I'm with you. I was stung by the difficulty in getting
the charter or anything else agreed upon, so …once burnt, twice shy….but if
you want to do a city with your own rules…I'm in…just make the rules and I
will build within them. I here to use my talents non-politically.

Hi Sanford,
>> just make the rules and I will build within them. <<
I'll be meeting with Donald this weekend to polish some merging/naming
ideas and such. I'm hoping to have the instructions text and blocks layout for
Main Street in about 1 1/2 weeks. Pretty basic. Might take a little longer
for the .mli.
Thanks for your support.
Showed a video person the animation I made of your cockroach climbing an
oldcity.3ds skyscraper. They were very impressed by your roach!
Good luck to you and Donald and others on the main StudioCity project! It
is a great idea that should become a reality. Hopefully Main Street will
settle some of the logistical questions; good luck on all of the legal and
commercialization questions for the city as a whole! 😉 I'd like to help if
things become more settled.
Paul S.
Paul,
Main street sounds good…a nice little town.
The animation of my roach..i've never seen it.
Did you post it in animations? Or could you send me a tape? Sounds fun.
Sanford
Sanford,
<<The animation of my roach..>>
Paul did an incredible job using IK of making your roach climb the Autodesk
"Empire State" building in his demo tape!
–Donald
I would love to see it. I am building more of the characters
for "The Adventures of Randy and Pill" …Randy is the Roach and Mr.
Mr. Pill is an intellectual pill bug. Lots of fun. They travel
through New York.
I was browsing through the section again and caught your message
about "Main Street"; if I'm still allowed to show my face around here
🙂 I'd be curious to hear more. Let me know if you would be open to
a contribution, I'm still intrigued by the concept of a big 'ol
project and don't have any hang-ups about mesh size or what material
I can use. Just for what its worth…
Hi Don,
>> Let me know if you would be open to a contribution, <<
I'm setting up some of the structures for Main Street. It should
be ready for contributions within a week or two. It is a very
scaled-back version of the StudioCity idea. I'm working closely with
Donald to integrate Main Street and StudioCity, such as
organizational approaches, etc.
Once Main Street is ready for contributions, I will announce it
here in Asoft as well as in Showcase. It will be first come, first
served…

Good to see someone's really got something going !
Keep on
Michael
>> Good to see someone's really got something going ! <<
Thanks. The city project as a whole is still moving forward. I
met with Donald Newlands twice so far this weekend. The new forum is
open. Main Street will be the quickest option for people to
contribute to, and it should be less complex than StudioCity. Keep
yer eyes open.
Hi Paul,
<< The city project as a whole is still moving forward. >>
Is this message section traffic going to jump to ASHOWCASE soon? Now
that StudioCity 2000 exists on ASHOWCASE, I image that this message
area will be shutting down soon..
So it's ASHOWCASE….
Nice to hear it, tried ASHOW and SHOWCASE but got lost.
HEY SYSOP: What about some NEWS ????? <g&d>
Michael
Mike,
ASHOWCA or the Autodesk ShowCase forum opened Friday just one day behind the
latest schedule. CIS has been jammed with new forums and getting them open.
Section 8 and Library 22 have been set aside for StudioCity 2000. So I suggest
that all discussions be transfered over to there, as just like Jonas said, this
area will be closing.
We'll upload the thread files from this section to Library 22 on the Autodesk
ShowCase forum just after we close this section down so we make sure that we
get them all.

Consider it jumped! <g>
Paul S.
thanks Paul.
Jonas,
If the Studio City 2000 forum #16 shuts down and is nested within the
Ashowcase, I think it will be harder for brousers to find the city, but perhaps
that would be good. As soon as we are set up for uploading I would like to
consider moving all activity to the Ashowcase, and then post announcements in
all the other forums to let everybody know.
Other opinions…..?
Sanford
Hi Sanford,
<< opinions.. >>
It's really up to Bob Henderson and Joe.
Sanford,
The Autodesk ShowCase forum is up and running. Libraries are all set to receive
uploads and have. And I would imagine that we'll be closing this particular
message section sometime next week, or at least by the end of the month.
What we really need is a list of the committee members, their responsibilities
and UID's so we can get the rest of the SC2K stuff set up in ASHOWCAS.
Hi Joe,
>> What we really need is a list of the committee members, their
responsibilities and UID's so we can get the rest of the SC2K stuff set up in
ASHOWCAS. <<
I sent Bob Henderson some e-mail last Friday, as he had asked me pretty
much the same thing. I still haven't heard back from him.
As it currently stands, Sanford Kennedy (73201,1374) and Donald Newlands
(73170,3216) are the most active in StudioCity right now. I'm currently
preparing the Main Street group project, a less ambitious version of StudioCity
that *will* come to fruition. I'm working directly with Donald Newlands on the
.mli needs for both StudioCity and Main Street.
Bob granted Sanford K. and I free flags in Showcase, as well as sysop
abilities, so that we can grab new uploads for StudioCity/Main Street from the
New Uploads (Library 1), check them over, then put them into the StudioCity
Library.
Bob asked if any one else needed the above, and I asked for Donald
Newlands to be given the same abilities. As far as I know this hasn't happened
yet.
I asked Bob several questions, among them how to access the sysop commands
we'll need. The three of us are using WinCim right now. I assume we'll need
to use another program?
As far as actual "job titles," I guess Donald N. and I are the .mli
Co-ordinators, I'm the Project Co-ordinator for Main Street, and Sanford K. and
Donald N. are the temporary Project Co-ordinators for StudioCity. If they get
the project moved far enough forward for elections, I'll seek nomination for a
StudioCity job.
Paul Sanford (75144,2354)
Paul,
We are going to take this conversation over to the sysop section on the
showcase forum. You got access there cause I gave it to you, and I'm the one
that will be doing the teaching……<grin>.
Delete your existing showcase forum favorite place stuff, and rejoin that
forum. See you there.
<< Keep yer eyes open. >>
I will do for sure, it's good to have Donald with you, I had the impression
he's more realistic than the rest of the 'dreamers'. Sorry if anyone feels
offended, but there has been a LOT of unnessecary babble, I mean, philosophy is
fine, but for really get something to go you need a bit more realism……I was
watching the city project since december and was quite irritated, because I
liked the idea, but the discussion reminded me of german bureaucracy that I
hate so much <g>. I'm more the kind of practical guy and I'm anxious to do
something.
Press on guys, I think there are more people waiting like me.
Michael
