#Disapearing Decal?

I made a model of basically a box with a front panel sitting on top and a hood over. On the panel is a material with a decal. When I render it from certain views the decal disappears. It shows as it should when rendering on the screen but the output which is saved as a gif onto disk lacks the decal. It mostly occurs when viewed close to directly on, from about 45degrees its mostly there but some tearing is still evident. I tried tiling the decal as well but no difference. The bitmap which is used as the decal has black in the 1st pixel, I was wondering if the black is being confused with the shadow and rendering it transparent (but tiling it should have fixed it, shouldn't it). Thanks in advance Kim Ps I'm a relative newbe at this so the answer may be obvious.

Hi Kim, << It shows as it should when rendering on the screen but the output which is saved as a gif onto disk lacks the decal. >> This is a strange one. Are you able to reproduce it on another machine? If you want to upload the mesh with the texture maps to the libs with a keyword "FOR AUTODESK" I'll look at it. If you see it on the screen when it renders, it should also render the same to the disk. jonas[adesk]

I set the drive correctly and it seems ok now. Just to test, I purposely told it the wrong path and tried a render sample in the material editor and it rendered ok. I thought it used to warn if the path was incorrect. This is R4, maybe its something thats been fixed in C1. If you're interested I'll upload it for you. Thanks Kim

HI Kim, << I set the drive correctly and it seems ok now. >> Glad that it's working. jonas[adesk]
