I find using my new 28.8 modem can REALLY show down my A2000 with 68030 @
28Mhz. Even intuition screen updates get very slow. I am wondering if getting a
serial port card for a zorro 2 slot will help this problem. I am thinking if I
get the serial tranfer off the chip ram bus, I will be in better shape. Does
this make sense?

You ought to try the v34serial.device for your 28.9 modem. Also, do you have a
GVP SCSI controller? If you do, there is a patch which helps with contention
over the serial port when doing d/l's…

I never heard of that. I will check it out.

No. I have a GVP 3001 which has an IDE controller. Do you know if this has the
problem also.

I don't know if it affects the GVP 3001… but it would be worth checking out.

I have that same problem using a Multi-face card. (my serial port is dead).
Where can you get the patch for the GVP Scsi controller?? I could sorely use
it!

I am not sure where you could get it. Perhaps it is located in the GVP
libraries in AmigaVen.

Uhm, yes.
I find it remarkable that you're even able to use 28800 baud on your
standard serial port. Remember it should be set to double the speed of
the modem connection, so your computer should be set at 57600 baud.
There's no way the internal port can manage that. Any serial card can
though.

PMFJI, I've had a 28.8 modem for a while now. Are you telling me ('cos no one
else did) that I have to adjust the "link" speed accordingly? That's over in
Prefs/Serial, right? That only goes up to 31k and change. I may need a hand
here, too.
