#Help with Mosaic
3 messages in this thread
Jim,
I have been watching this thread because I have been unsuccessful getting
Mosaic to run. May I draw on your experience?
I have 2 versions of AmiTCP: v2.x and the $ v4.1. I have the 2.x version
running. So far I 'Gopher' all over successfully. The v4.1 is still
floundering. Only justifications I have for buying the commercial version are
"newer-is-better" and altruistic support for the authors' good work. The manual
is helpful, but not for my level of knowledge and interest (read: 'this is NOT
plug-n-play'). I'm learning Arexx as I'm dragged kicking and screaming through
the programs.
Back to Mosaic: Iget a message that says, 'Failed to start application.' I
think I have foolowed (Freudian slip spelling error)the installation
instructions (several times!), but ….
Any thoughts? No ridicule please. This has made my ego fragile. Oh, go
ahead, I'm desperite, but not suicidal!
Thanks,
Ken
Ken,
Amosaic will only run under AmiTCP ver3.0b or better. You'll have to get
AmiTCP 4.1 successfully installed before you can run Amosaic. Let me tell you
this. I thought AmiTCP was hard to install too. Now that I have it running I
find how easy it actually was. Good luck.

Ken –
The Mosaic-AmiTCP docs include the following:
> [Requirements] Amiga OS 2.0 or greater.
> To utilize the full potential of AMosaic requires Amiga OS 3.0 or greater
> A direct internet connection via AmiTCP 3.0 beta 2….
It sounds like Mosaic won't run for you because you are running your old copy
of AmiTCP 2.x, not the 4.1 you've paid for <g>.
How does 4.1 "flounder"? Have you e-mailed amitcp-group@hut.fi for help? If you
give the installation program the same addresses and everything that you gave
to the 2.x version when you installed that, it SHOULD work.
