I really don't mind (considering what I have been called at times), but it's
ButterFIELD!

Oh boy, I don't know how that one came out. I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. My
foot is buried somewhere deep in my intestine. I shall promptly correct the
message. I do know your name, I don't know what the hell I was thinking. Now
I feel like Dick Armey. Oh well.
Also, I mispoke myself in my first post – Trimmer didn't screw anything up,
Amigaguide just wouldn't show me everything for some reason.
Now I'll go bury my head in a swamp.

I suspect that it is because AmigaGuide doesn't handle "embedded"
formatting etc. commands that are split between lines. e.g. Look at Col 68 Line
106 (or so) of the original (un-reformatted) guide where you have:
@{"partitions" link glossary.partition}
^ ^ ^
68 75 106
As you can see, reformatting (75 cols) would leave '@{"parti' at the end
of one line and put the rest 'tions" link glossary.partition}' at the start of
the next line. Alas, AmigaGuide (at least the 2.x version) does not seem to
want to look on the next line for the rest — that's what makes (manual)
reformatting such a tedious solution :).

Very likely. I could go through and manually fix it, but it's not worth it. I
just received 3.1 yesterday – except what to my wondering eyes did I see? NO
ROM CHIPS! Expert Services wouldn't even overnight them – so I'll be lucky to
install this week. 🙁

I had just started to think about getting 3.1 for my CBM A2630 accelerated
A2000 (with a GVP Series II HC+2) even though I had sworn to leave it at 2.1
until I (whimpering and moaning) had to finally transition to another HW/SW
platform. Frankly, I didn't want to even chance going through another "Oh, it's
incompatible with your oddball (<-implied) system unless you get the
'frammises' for your 'whatzit'" experience — like when I went from 1.3 to 2.04
(New ROMs for the A2630 AND new ROMs for the GVP Hard Card with just getting
them a MAJOR part of the hassle)!
Well, many reports of decisions to upgrade (yours included) were beginning
to weaken my resolve. Found myself looking through the back of the February 95
Amiga World (which wonder-of-wonders showed up yesterday on the magazine rack
of the Waldenbooks right here in Lawton, OK, USA — after months and months of
not a trace) and noting that Safe Harbor, Creative, SoftwareHut, etc. all
advertised the 3.1 upgrade. I wondered if any of those numbers were still being
answered and if so, would mention of 'Amiga' bring sneers and/or snickers?
Planned to start looking back through past messages (or posting a request) for
the primary source of the 3.1 upgrade (Expert Services?). Told myself that I
wouldn't risk the installation, but would have just 3.1 on hand ready to be
installed when my primary processing was safely moved to the (yech) new
platform and the 2000 was (sigh) just a backup machine.
Now — I dunno! Good luck and would appreciate hearing how it turns out.

I don't think it's all as bad as that! I mean, it is pathetic that there were
no ROM chips in the package, but it's just an ordinary screwup, I think, and
the chips are supposed to be on the way.
It's not even that hard to install them, just involved, though if you've got a
dealer you should order them from him and have him install them.

I got the ROM chips yesterday – the holiday weekend delayed them, I guess – and
everything installed smoothly, without a hitch.

Glad to hear it! I'm still considering the upgrade but really don't have
the nerve to do it while this is still my primary (and sole) machine.

Consider how some people's names can get REALLY screwed up …

Believe me, I know. I've gotten all kinds of grief from my last name. I've
come to the conclusion that Billy Idol is The Most Famous Person In The World,
since 2 out of 3 strangers, learning my last name in a business context and
already talking to me – i.e. bookstore clerks, etc – ask me if I'm related.
