I am a novice and can find all my old AW issues except the NOV 94 issue on
Moniters. I have a Amiga 4000/030 and using my 1084s from my A2000 However when
I look at the games and programs that say PAL I wonder where can I get a PAL
moniter since even tho my wb provides for a commonity I can't work my moniter
to agree . Help as I said I am a novice Thanks in advance. Most of my Amiga
useage is DTP/ Graphics
Your 1084s should have no problem in PAL mode. What you need to do is warm boot
your 4000 and hold down the 2 mouse buttons as it is booting. You will get a
screen with several options, select (I'm going from memory here) the display
options button, and select PAL, then select boot. The only time this doesn't
work is if you have a genlock like a SuperGen hooked up, as it can only handle
NTSC.

I don't know about US 1084s but I should think you can use it as a PAL monitor
as well (I can use my PAL monitor as NTSC too at any rate). You'll only notice
that
a) you won't see all of the picture, so you'll have to adjust picture height
and
b) the picture will "run", so you'll have to adjust the vertical hold control.
This is really the crucial thing. If your monitor can scan down to 50Hz
(vertical) you can use it for PAL (which is 15.625kHz Horizontal/50Hz vertical
scan rate while NTSC is 60Hz vertical scan rate). Vertical scan rate means your
monitor can adjust to display n pictures per second, and the vertical hold
control lets you adjust this. MultiScan monitors can adjust automatically to
all vertical scan rates within the range they support but then they're that
much more expensive…
