Lu,
I read your message about Amiga 2000 to Mac, but I didn't quite understand all
of it . I need to take an amiga file from my Mac hardrive and put it into an
Amiga 2000. Do you know of a Mac utility that reads Amiga disks or an Amiga
utility that reads Mac disks?
Is your post indicating that both the Mac and Amiga can read DOS disks? My Mac
already reads DOS. What do I need on the Amiga to read DOS?

For the Mac, there are two transfer utilities — MaxDOS, from Media 4, and
CrossMAC, from Consultron.
For the PC, the best-known is CrossDOS, from Consultron, a version of which is
included in recent versions of AmigaDOS. Or you can buy a more complete version
as a stand-alone.

OK Mac -> Amiga. If they are side by side you can connect them by a cable and
use a comms program on each (just like a phone line). If not, you a utility
like Mac-2-DOS AND a Mac floppy drive. On the Mac side you copy to a floppy.
On the Amiga side you run the util after connecting the drive and then copy
over the file. Also if you want to, you can get programs and hardware like
Amax and Emplant. These emulate Mac systems. Apparently Emplant will run Mac
software on an Amiga faster than on a Mac.
Mac -> Amiga via clone DOS. Copy the file from the Mac to a 760k DSDD clone
formatted floppy. On the Amiga side run something like CrossDos, DOS-2-DOS or
MessyDOS (I think there may be others). Copy the file to the Amiga side.
Alternatively run something like PCTask (a software clone emulator) and copy
the file that way, althoough you need a clone DOS disk as well for this. I
think PCTask also comes with a transfer program.

Have you ever heard about CrossMac (something like CrossDos)? Has anyone ever
used it?

Erik Flom says he wrote a review of all the Mac file transfer utilities for
March VTU. I haven't used CrossMac myself, but it comes from the same people
who do CrossDOS, and they always do a good job.

PMFJI, but I should add something:
As of the last testing, MaxDOS was a little faster.
However, I just recently found out that the Format command that came with
CrossDOS was not compatible with my Amiga 4000.
After spending lots of time trying to isolate the problem, I found that
CrossMAC had replaced my Format command with a new one.
The problem I ran into was that whenever I tried to format a LoDensity
floppy from WorkBench, I would get a 'volume/device not mounted' error.
(I wish I'd noticed it _before_ the article was published….)
