#2.0 rom wanted
15 messages in this thread
I'm looking for a 2.0x rom chip. Anyone have one floating around?
I have one for an A500. Fit?
Paul (aka Mr. Zombie)
Yes, just upgraded to 3.1 and the chip is in perfect condition.I also have
the disks and manuals and have been planning to sell as a package. Are you
interested in the latter?
I may be interested; having trouble with the 2.04 ROM i just bought! Will the
3.0 work in an A2000 with 3.9 motherboard??

I think it will but it will probably need to have one of the pins
jumpered. The instructions describe it.

Thanks, Hank; does the manual say anything about the 3.9 motherboard in
particular (Don Curtis says the 3.9 is a pre-release board, may be a dog for
some purposes)? Does it say anything about 2620 accelerator cards?? It may be
that the memory chips in the 2620 are older type chips that need to be updated
to run the new ROM (at least, that seems to be the problem with the 2.xx ROM)
anyway, I appreciate your response…

Don;
This info comes from the single page instruction sheet from Village
Tronic, included with the 3.1 upgrade kit.
It says that if your system includes a 2620 or 2630 accelerator card, you
need to check the version of the ROM chips at positions U4 and U5. If they
are older than 1/15/91, they need to be upgraded with LowROM #P/N
390282-06 (for the U4) and HighROM #P/N 390283-06 (for the U5). This
accomplished, you can then install the 3.1 ROM. You can check the date at
the processor selection screen by pressing shift-M thus entering the A2630
monitor. Then use the version command to display the date.
With respect to the motherboard, Rev. 3 boards need to have the ROM
jumpered from pin 1 to pin 31. Newer boards starting at Rev. 4 do not need
jumper.

I have access to the disks and manuals. What's your asking price??
Sorry, I don't want to sell them separately. Asking price for the "whole
shebang" is $65 plus shipping/handling. BTW, I have 2.1, not 2.0.
I've got the entire 2.1 kit (Books, ROM and disks) I'd be willing to let go for
$50 + $5 for postage.
Mike: I really only need the chip. $50 is a little rich… Thanks
Hi Dan;
Maybe we can work out a deal here – I have the 2.1 ROM and disks, but Grapevine
never sent me the manuals. I've really wanted the manuals off and on for the
last 8 months or so, so if we can get Michael to ship them separately, I'd be
willing to split the cost with you – you get the chip and I get the manuals.
Sound fair?
Thanks,
Duane.
Duane: It would depend on what my real cost is. I live near Software Hut (but
have never been there) and understand I can possably get the chip new for
around $25. It sounds like an interesting deal biut let me investigate further.
BTW … Didn't Grapevine go belly up ??
That was for the manuals+2.04 chip in mint condition…
