Hi there! I produce a series of 90 second tv news videos called "Inside Science" for the American Institute of Physics and am looking for a scientist… preferably someone with a physics background… who can explain very simply why earthquakes occur. This is for a video feature on the science of earthquakes to be produced in April. I need someone in the VA/MD/DC/DEL area who is comfortable on camera, can explain earthquakes as if talking to 8th graders, and speaks clearly. Please send any suggestions to kwilson@aip.org or to this compuserve address with my name in the subject heading. Thanks, Kelli Wilson Broadcast Producer

Hi, Kelli– Welcome to the forum/section! While you may turn up some references here, you can broaden your search by trying GO EARTH forum and the usenet newsgroups sci.geo.earthquakes and/or sci.geo.geology; using newsgroups on CIS is discussed in SCIGEO.TXT in this forum's library (although I do not describe _posting_ messages, at least it gets you into the newsgroup). Be aware that your Internet E-mail address is 75022.3015@compuserve.com when asking for responses. –Doug

I am probably not what you want. I am a Chemical Enigneer with a hobby of geology. I wrote "Underfoot, A Geologic Guide to the Appalachian Trail" (two edi- tions) give general talks on geology to local schools, scout groups and at biennial meetings of the Appalachian Trail Conference. I am about to start teaching a six week noncredit course to retirees at The Kingsport University Center. I can hold attention and made a a number of slides of geology including faults all around the U. S. I enjoy giving programs and thought I would let you know. I am employed full time.

Where along the trail do you live? I lived in Maryland for a while just west of the trail (Hagerstown) and crossed it every day for work. Walk short bits in my area. Craig
