There is no release date that I'm aware of right now. I have a source in Commodore USA that told me they could 1.4 it right now – it's done!! We co-theorized that the reason for holding off the release is that it has many features that makes use of the Super Denise chip that will be forthcoming, and don't want to release one until they're in a position to release substantial quantities of the other. BTW: Use of the Fatter Agnus chip will also be made. Prices? Also theory, but here's the best info I've got: Workbench 1.4 & Kickstart 1.4 ROM – $30-50 ("around the price of the 1.3 upgrade kit; maybe a bit higher." Fatter Agnus ROM chip – On the market now, I do believe, at around $130 (?) I'm sure someone else out there has better info on this than I. "Super" Denise ROM chip – VERY shakey; no part number yet even. Probably in the $200 range. Maybe cheaper – maybe not. He really sincerely didn't know (I don't think CBM knows yet!). I hope that satisfies your nose for gossip! Remember that it IS such, and that those who place thier trust in it are usually dissapointed! *I* don't trust it too much, and will not until I hold it all in my hot little hands!

It is my understanding that by an agreement with AT&T, Commodore will not release AMIX until system 5.4 (?) is released. In light of this, I'm sure C= is glad for the extra time this will require to work on 1.4…again, this is only a rumor.

This isn't a rumor- it is hard fact and not just with CBM, but everyone who uses Unix V.4. HOWEVER, it has already been released- about a month ago. There were articles about it in ComputerWorld, BYTE, and probably a jillion other computer mags, none of which anyone really reads. (Source code is rumored to be around $100,000- which is down from the V.3 source price or $125,000 – $150,000.)

G'day David, well at a guess i'd say that 1.4 is nowhere near finished,as the talk around the traps is that 1.4 Beta has only just gone out to developers,so it's going to be a while before we see Gamma versions, then of course the release of it…My bet is November/December for 1.4 . The Super Denise, well i'm sure CBM will be selling that to CBM authorised service centres quite some time before then,so that people will be able to get it fitted in anticipation of the 1.4 release. The above should be taken with a grain of salt,as I have no *facts* to support any of this,it is only my opinion of what may be happening.
