I've heard rumors that they did port WinNT to SGI hardware, but that for all sorts of reasons they haven't shipped it – yet.

It's is up to Autodesk to consider making 3ds for NT not only for the Intel but MIPS,AlPHA. I am considering buying an SGI INDY or an NEC RISC station but am but on hold until we get the specs for 3ds on NT. Am I going to far by doing so? Thanks Will

No, I don't think it's a bad idea to wait, if you want to invest in non-Intel hardware. On the other hand, there's always a good market for used Intel hardware, so you could buy today, learn the software tomorrow, and trade up to another platform when 3DS/NT ships.
