Hello again, The answer to your question is no.
I rendered a 230 frame targa sequence last night to find if this would hang my
computer as did the tiffs but this was not the case. I came down this morninng
to find my computer working fine and ready for the next task.
This problem appears to be limited to tiffs only, so now what?

My next question would be, is the tiff problem isolated to this specific
project or any *.3ds file?

No. It seems to happen when the number of frames required goes up above 50 or
so.

Are you running SMARTDRV? (Or another disk caching program.) If so,
try turning it off and see if this makes a difference. I've seen
SMARTDRV hang the system sometimes when writing to a fast H.D. on a
fast computer, especially when caching writes. It *usually* works
O.K., but it was trial and error for me that found this.
Thanks for the info John but I don't use smartdrive at all. The adaptec 2940
controller card I use has biult in caching

wrong the number I gave was1-800-667-1957 that number is incorrect.
The correct number is 1-800-667-1975 Key Computer Burnaby B.C.

I found the correct number through the archives here. I also forwarded
your problem to my escalation. It is very strange to me the
relationship of Tiff in this puzzle. I rendered out a very long Tiff
sequence here with no problems. I reviewed your hardware list and you
could yank out the sound card and try again. Also, maybe the dealer
can swap out the disc controller and try again. Until I understand
any special concerns regarding tiff and your environment, I'm drawing
at straws.

Hello Jonas, Last night I tried a bare bones confi & autoexecbat and attempted
to render 230 frames of tiffs. The render crashed at frame 2. I rebooted and
tried the same scenerio as targas but again no problems.
My system boots from my scsi controller so I have to run the aspidos8.sys
driver but nothing else was loaded.
My great concern for tiffs is caused by the program I use to make movies. For
some reason Adobe Premiere' crashes as soon as I even try to load a targa
sequence. If I could figure that one out I could just render targa files and to
hell with the tiff problem.
Any suggestions there?

hmm… Do the targa files read correctly in other applications? I know of
problems with corrupt targa files and network cards (see README item VIII.3)
and corrupt files and disc controllers.
I do not have Adobe Premiere' but maybe a forum regular will join the
conversation.
If you render your animation out as targas and the use video post to render the
targas into TIFFs, does your machine still misbehave?

impliment it. I haven't heard anything from my dealer yet but I am sure he will
call.
I may be offline for a few days because I am moving my office to a local mall

Have you tried rendering uncompressed TGA files? I have found some programs
don't like the compressed tga files (although most have more problems with
TIFF's than TGA's)
