I just got on the internet and I'm looking for some good ftp sites for 3DStudio, Models, scripts, ipas's, and the such…. everytime I talk to someone in person they say "Oh YEAH there a bunch of that stuff," but they can never remember the address… So if anybody know any good sites please leave me mail

>> I'm looking for some good ftp sites for 3DStudio, Models, scripts, ipas's, >> and the such… The classic site is "avalon.vislab.navy.mil", which has recently changed its name from "chinalake" to "vislab", if you see any references to that.

FYI, there is a new newsgroup called alt.3d.studio on the 'Net. Not a lot of traffic in there yet, but I thought I would pass along the info.

There is a news group "alt.3d" where 3DS is often mentioned, albeit in a "cracked" reference. There is also supposed to be an "alt.3ds" newsgroup but I haven't seen it yet.

I've found that the CompuServe FTP service works quite nicely for getting into vislab. Of course, it's more expensive than most other methods.

Actually, the Syndesis Avalon CD is a pretty good deal, too… I'm sure it's cheaper than Compuserve's 'ftp'. 🙂

John: You're right, the Syndesis Avalon CD is a great buy, and much easier than downloading 300 or 400 megs of meshes! I use mine pretty often. Are you planning on updating the CD every year or so for all the new stuff? :^) Greg Pyros

Absolutely! I've tried to think of ways to enhance it, like providing some kind of thumbnails or catalogs, perhaps using HTML as the cross-platform hypertext solution. After, you can Mosaic a CD just as well as an Internet site.
