#The Executive Producer

I need to communicate between a Sony FXE-100 (Editor, Mixer, Switcher) and a PC
via the RS-232 port that both have. I need to get the EDLs in and out of both
and modify the EDLs in the PC then reinsert them in the Sony FXE-100. Does
anyone have experience with "The Executive Producer" by Imagine products in
doing this or any other EDL management?????
I also have D-Vision pro which I understand works well with "The Executive
Producer".
Any "Executive Producer" users out there???

I take it the Sony doesn't have a floppy drive? Amazing in today's world if it
doesn't.

That's correct, No floppy drive on the Sony FXE-100. I can understand that as
they were trying to keep the cost down and the size of the unit small. Anyway,
most PCs including laptops have floppy drives. I'm just having trouble
communicating between the FXE-100 and my PC through the RS-232 port.

Well then I take it the Sony has some sort of serial management software… for
sending data to/receiving data from the serial port. Can you describe it?
Have you tried running a null-modem cable and telecommunications software on
your PC to see what the Sony dumps when you tell it to?

Regarding transfer of Data in and out of the FXE-100 & a PC via the RS-232
ports. Neither a standard cable or a null modem cabel works. It requires a
custom cable with a custom pin configuration. I can send you a diagram of the
cable if you give me your FAX number.
I have had such a cable made and it works. But I still lack easy to use
software. I can transfer an EDL out of the FXE to the PC using the "terminal"
program in Windows
(Com 1, 9600 baud, No parity, 8 bit character lingth, 1 stop bit) I haven't
yet succeded in getting a list in.

I don't need the pin-outs of the cable so much as just to know that you have
such a beast. I take it that on the screen where you can "export EDL", there is
also an "import EDL" button. If that is the case, if we look at what the Sony
exports, then we may be able to recreate a format on the PC that it will
import. Can you capture and post a small EDL where we can look it over and see
if we can see any clues?

I was perusing the DTVForum and saw your name and it jingled a memory. Back in
'92 Steve Panosian, from Sony, got us together to discuss Beta decks. You ended
up buying a Sony GV500 from me.
It looks as though you've moved up in the video world from plain old Beta
machines. :=)
I've started using a Sony UVW-1800 and a Newtek Flyer for editing and
generating animations. What a change!
For your information, at Sony's Dallas office, Wendy Jenny is the Video
Specialist, but I don't think she works with the kind of equipment you have.
She might be a good resource though.
