Understanding this is the Amiga forum I take the liberty of using the forum to
ask some help trying to get the Courier to work with the CBM-64 and the
Omnitronix RS-232 interface. The pins all look to send the proper signals, and
I am making the proper changes to my Vidtex 4.2 terminal program, or the
PRoTerm program I also use. Still I have no luck. I am sending the AT commands,
and when I turn the modem I send the AT command and get back an OK, however
that's it. The speaker volume is up all the way, but I can't get the modem to
dial or even hear the dial tone thru the modem speaker. Again, may of you know
the 64, so if anyone can help I'd appreciate it. Let's face it I'm sitting here
with a modem that cost $425. that I can't even use to go 1200 baud with, and
that's why I bought it. Thanks again.Scott

If you get an "OK" back when you send an "AT<CR>", then there doesn't seem to
be any reason for the modem not to dial, etc. What happens when you send it a
full dialing string?

It might be the autodial routine in the terminal program that you are
using. When I had my 64, I would sometimes have to use the AT commands to dial,
rather then the built-in routines. I believe that this is the case with VIDTEX.
Try this — ATDPxxx-xxxx . The 'P' is for PULSE dialing – if your line can use
tone, substitute a 'T'. If you can't use tone, and you are trying to dial out
tone (a default that many programs unfortunately assume), nothing will appear
to happen.

this is for scott shukat: i hope you have an rs232 converter cartridge plugged
into the user port! if not, you risk blowing up your 64! the 64's user port
is TTL levels – not rs232. if you know anything about hardware, you can build
one real cheap (rectumfry the 9VAC lines to get +/-12V) and use 1488/1489 chips
to do the level translation. or you can get lazy and buy the rs232 cartridge
someplace.
