#DVideo Color Problem
13 messages in this thread
I'm playing around with DVideo, trying to learn its ins and outs. I'm stuck!
Using DPaint, I've created extremely simple picture and objects to use in a
very simple scene:
1. Background picture is a tree against a sky and grass
2. Objects are:
a. Yellow sun to move across the sky
b. The cloud from DPaint (fantasy scene) to move across
the sky
c. Grey bird (animated to fly) to move across the sky.
(bird is of the very simple variety that looks like a
small m — the kind children draw)
Problem: Although I have used no more than eight colors total in both the
picture and the objects, I'm having problem with the color palette
changing. I have no problem with either the cloud or the sun because of
the requester where I can select BEST or CURRENT palette. However, when I
try to introduce the bird into the scene, I get no requester and the
program just automatically assigns a pallete of colors and turns the bird,
cloud, and sun black. Does anyone have any idea what I am doing w?
My guess woulkd be to make sure the background had a smiliar/same grey as
the bird, in it's pallette.
Thanks for the suggestion, but that was what I tried at first. I've even tried
using the same brown that's being used for the trunk of the tree, and the same
thing happens — the program decides to use black instead.
I guess you'll have to take up the problem with EA. By the way, the Art Pack II
from Aegis has a bunch of pictures and windows (Brushes) that all use the same
color Pallette for this very reason. This is a 32 color Pallette so I don't
think it will help with your problem. The Art Pack also comes with a Player
program for the Aegis Animator. You can give Player away.

What is the pallette that you used in DPaint when creating the bird? Or did you
create the bird with polygon text? If you created it as a polygon then the
pallette that you would get is the default one in DVideo – if the bird is the
last object you introduce – DVideo is changing the other objects to that
pallette. Try changing the pallette to the same one used for the sun and clouds
and see what happens. Marlene
The bird is not being created with polygon text, but with DPaint. It is
being introduced as the last object (When I try introducing it earlier, the
bird changes color when either of the other objects are introduced (to
white if the cloud is introduced afterwards, or to yellow if the sun
follows it). Between the various pictures and objects I'm trying to use,
I'm only using a total of eight different colors (and the grey of the bird
is the same as the grey in the cloud). Maybe my conception of what is the
same pallette of colors is wrong — can you tell me what to do to insure
that I am using the same pallette for everything?
Gwen, try using the information in Appendix C of the DVideo manual to
create 8-color versions of the pictures in DPaint. Make sure you are using
the same 8 colors for each picture. Then you'll be using 'CURRENT' instead
of 'BEST' when you get the requestor in Framer. If this doesn't work – I
really don't know what else to tell you. It seems though that the sun and
cloud pictures cannot be the same pallette as the bird – I think what must
be happening is that DVideo is choosing a different set of 8 colors from
the 32 in DPaint – even though all three pictures are created from the same
(32 color) pallette. Marlene
