Do any one can tell me if the halfbright value of rgb 5,7,8 will look like rgb 2.5,3.5,4 or 2,3,4 on the screen. In other words could I see more than 4096 colors on an A miga screen (not at the same time obviously). I need a definitive reference on that subject! We are discusting about that topic since the beginning of the year in our user group. Than's

Clement, I can't find the reference right now, but NO, half-brite mode does not double the number of colors available…just the number permitted on a screen at once. Don

Hello Don! It's not a matter off doubling because only colors with a odd color componant would produce a new halfbrgiht color. Ex rgb (2,4,8) would generate (1,2,4) wich is an existing one. Clement

Clement, That's what I said…it doesn't double the number of colors, it doubles the number of colors you can have on the screen at one time. Don

Don, Sorry I tought that you were saying that no more than 4096 colors could be seen on an Amiga screen. Clement

Clement, Whoops…not counting HAM mode, you can have the full 4096 in HAM mode so halfbright would obviously have no effect…if it can even be invoked in HAM mode. Don

Don, I don't believe Halfbrite can be invoked in HAM mode. Both modes require 6 bitplanes, but the way the colors are represented are not the same. GreG

Don, I don't think Halfbright could be use simultanously with HAM HAM requires 6 bitplanes and HB an extra one. Clement

Clement, The half-bright value of 5 would be 2. The low order bit is lost. Regards, Larry.

Hello Larry! Thank's for your information, so I'm not missing too much of not having HB on my 1000 (I would rather prefer have it, but…). Where did you found this information, I can't get my hands on a definitive reference. Clement

Clement, It was explained by various people over the past few years. I don't know if there is a reference to it in the docs or not. Regards, Larry.
