For accessing Compuserve sofar as going in quickly, gathering up all
interesting messages, checking through a vast list of PD stuff, then
getting off more quickly than I believe any human can manage, you'll want
Whap!1.8. You can download it here. On the other hand, you really
can'texplore around through C.I.S. with Whap! You need a terminal program,
and some of the best are real low cost shareware, namely Access and
JRComm0.94a.
As between those two, I have both, and I am positive that JRComm is the
best, most flexible, and easiest to use. It has virtually every protocol
you could need, and is a model of how programs should be able to be written
to using the Amiga interactive devices. For evry phone number you save, you
can save evrything you want to accompany it, including all parameters,
protocols, modem settings, even screen colors and different passwords, all
of which changes automatically as you dial different numbers. Try it!
Just curious, I am using Whap, and I can't figure out how to get a listing
of the PD stuff. Can you enlighten me? Thanx, Vicky

If you click on C, Whap! will download a catalog for you. It first brings
up a parameter screen on which you can select the libraries you want
cataloged – and at the bottom, you can set the number of days you want to
catalog for, such as the last 30 days, etc. Actually, it would be quicker
to come online live, go to the library prompt with your capture buffer
open, and type "SCA SHO *.*" to get a one-line definition of each file in
that library, and alphabetized at that. You cannot use this one-line
summary for downloading with Whap!, though. For that, you must get the
full catalog by clicking on the letter C. Afterwards, you click on the D
to go through the catalog and mark things you want to download.

Betty That brings up a question I've been wondering about. I've noticed
that you can't download a program with Whap! unless you have the catalog
downloaded. It cost me a few "no files found" messages before I caught on.
Now, if I don't have it in a catalog i.e. I choose a program from Ndx_, I
just use Access, which I think might be a little faster although no
resumable downloads that I know of. Anyway, the catalog parameter screen
in whap! would suggest that you CAN download a selected file by typing in
the name of the file, keywords, etc. and selecting the Download requester.
What are those boxes for? It's got me stumped. Also, where in the
libraries can I find DMouse, QMouse, and Popcli?

In order to download a file with Whap! (without using the catalog), you
need to do the following:
1. Press the "C" button for the appropriate forum
2. Enter the filename
3. Press the the appropriate library button
4. Press the Download button
4. Press the OK button
Step 3 is the one that causes most people problem. Hope this helps.

I have not tried those boxes, George. Sorry. Steve can tell you about
them, but I just don't know how to use them.
