HP DeskJet Printer
6 messages in this thread
Hey Andy, you have me (and probably some others) hanging by a thread waiting
for the HP DeskJet driver. Could you at least let us know how soon we will
be able to use our new printers to the full capabilities? (Beg, beg, snivel,
whimper) ;^)
Mahalo,
Clay
Hi. Well, not quite….When I asked Dave B, our ace printer driver maker to
do a DeskJet for 1.2 he told me that if you're careful not to request that
the print area on the DeskJet go over 10.0 inches, it should work fine.
Except for the extended (international) character set, HP says its
compatible.
Is this different from what you are seeing ? If so, let me know; we'll talk
to HP and see…and I'll get Dave to do a 1.2 version of the specific DeskJet
driver as a temporary solution.
(I could swear I posted this message here before! Oh well, maybe that was
somewhere else 🙁 )

I'm a little confused by your message. Are you saying that the 1.2 version
of the LaserJet driver should work or the 1.2 version of the DeskJet driver
should? I don't have a DeskJet driver (any version) and the LaserJet 1.2
version has the intitialization error that you told me about. Maybe I'm
missing something….
The 1.2 version of the LaserJet driver does work (Dave just showed me some
output…)
Could you refresh my failing memory and remind me about the initialization
error ?
andy
Maybe its my failing memory. I was pretty sure it was you that told me that
in order to get the 1.2 version of the LaserJet driver to work you had to
either have the printer turned off when you first try to print or turn it off
and/or reset it as soon as it is sent print data. Or maybe that was a dream I
had last night! I'm never quite sure which is reality and which is fantisy!
Thanks for your help. If you can get a DeskJet driver out I (we) would
appreciate it.
Mahalo,
Clay
The only thing I remember like that was when I was talking to someone who was
running out of space for the bitmap…there were downloaded fonts in the
machine. Anyway, we ran a bunch of tests, and the LaserJet driver works
fine, as long as you…oh, that's it…the deskjet has a smaller print area,
and was choking on the # of lines Preferences was trying to send it…DeskJet
is limited to 10.0 inches.
