#Alps Printer
10 messages in this thread
I am considering replacing my venerable JX-80 printer with an Alps 24 pin
color printer. If anyone has had experience with this printer I would
appreciate any info on reliability, speed and print quality (text & graphics)
that you can offer. Thanks, Dave Vargo 73206,2041
Dave – I have the Alps ALQ324 printer – wide carriage 24 … pin printer and
love it. Its very fast, the colors are very intense in graphics mode and the
letter quality of the text is good. I use the Epson LQ2500 driver you can
find in DL 11 for it; set the preferences to "letter quality" for the best
graphics quality. Unfortunately, it only has one text font as supplied, but
you can buy other font cartridges if that becomes important to you. It's a
well built printer, very reliable, rugged – kind of "tank" character. (that
is, slender it's not…) If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!
@ Anne
Anne,
Thanks for the information on the Alps. It sounds like a good bet. Do you
have any idea what the optional font cartridges cost?
Dave
Dave – sorry, don't have prices for font cartridges right … to hand, but
will try to dig that up for you in the next couple of days. (And me, too,
come to think of it!) I'll post it here when I find out. @ Anne
Anne,
I got a message from John Sobernheim saying the price of the cartridges is
currently $55.
Dave
Dave – glad to see John replied – since he's now my dealer, … I was
planning on calling him to ask. Nothing like beating out the middleman!
<grin>
Dave,
I think you will be very happy with the Alps printer. It's built
like a tank and has a user replaceable print head, it's got good speed and
good color graphics. You won't have any problems with it working well on the
Amiga. One suggestion, however, buy a decent font for it when you buy the
printer. All they supply you with is an ugly gothic.

John,
How many font cartridges are available for the Alps, and what do they cost?
It sounds like a fine printer. Thanks for the information.
Dave
Dave,
I see three fonts listed in my catalog, Gothic (strange, it comes
with Gothic), OCR A, …. ooops… I was looking in the wrong place. Here
are the correct fonts: Courier, Prestige Elite, and OCR-A. They run $55
apiece.

John,
Thanks for the info on Alps font cartridges.
