I found a review of True Basic which makes it sound unappealing. It must use
the program to run or have another program tke it stand alone. Perhaps it is
time to learn another language.
Wellllll… in all fairness to BASIC, don't blame that on the language so
much as on the implementation of the compiler. BASIC has enough things to
complain about without adding another.
Have you considered learning C or Modula 2?

I have been sufficiently warned about trying to learn C. I don't have the
time to spare and already have enough aggravation in my life. I will probably
try Pascal.

Warned? Aggravation? No time to spare? AND YOU WANT TO LEARN PASCAL???
In logical terms, that's a null set. Just wait till you see a long PASCAL
listing. C is kind of mysterious looking, but PASCAL get's downright boring,
and there are times you could go crazy trying to do something you KNOW can be
done, but can't figure out the exact procedure Pascal expects.
Well, to each his own. Some people love the dickens out of it (usually
stern disciplinarians that like to wear leather, and have names like, "Master
Spike")

Actually – and I *hate* to say this, modula being what it is (yech)…. but
he'd be MUCH better off learning modula than pascal, which is, besides a long
list of adjectives we'll skip for now, obsolete and incomplete as a language.
At least Modula has a complete view of the world, like C does. Of course, *I*
feel he should learn C, and stay away from languages like basic, modula, and
pascal entirely. but…. :^)
Timothy… take a look at Pascal, but only a short one… enough to make you
wish you'd never seen it on the Amiga. The only one available is the pits. On
the other hand, Modula-2 is Wirth's 'better idea', and is available in the
form of Benchmark Modula-2, a great package with a superb user interface.
