Announcing…
"Transactor for the Amiga", a bimonthly magazine for Amiga programmers.
For the past decade, Transactor magazine has been the most authoritative
source of technical information for all Commodore computers, from the
earliest PET 2001s with the calculator keyboard right up to the Amiga 2000.
Starting January, 1988, "Transactor for the Amiga" will bring the same high
level of presentation and content to you in an all-Amiga magazine.
To get things rolling, we're offering subscriptions to the new magazine
right now at a price you will never see again – $7.50 US or $9.50 Cdn. for
a yearly subscription of 6 issues. This price is valid until January 1st

Congratulations and Best Wishes for the new venture!
What do you mean by the "intermediate" level programmer. I generally found
Transactor a bit too technical since I do not know ML. Still, there is a dearth
of information about the Amiga beyond the skimpy users manual and the myriad of
guides to DOS. So I think there is room for another magazine. What languages
will you support?
Will you run reviews? Want a review of Okidata 92 drivers? (just kidding.)

Thanks, Jim! To tell you the truth, I guess the definition of "intermediate
level programmer" will be a pragmatic and evolving one, depending on reader
feedback. Since high-level languages are viable on the Amiga (whereas they are
not on the other CBM computers), we'll definitely be running articles based on
languages other than ML. At a guess, I'd say we'll have a lot of C, some Modula
2, and a certain amount (negotiable) of Forth, APL, Icon, Draco, AmigaBasic,
Xlisp, possibly even Fortran if absolutely necessary. 🙂
As for reviews, yes… but mostly just of languages and utilities, I would
think – not games or productivity stuff. And, of _course_, a regular 10 page
section devoted to Okidata printer driver news.

Does the disk subscription include the magazine? Or are they seperate subscriptions?
Michael, they're separate subscriptions. With they current (8-bit) magazine,
there's a premium (a product you'd ordinarily pay for separately) that you get
when you order both subs at the same time; I would assume we'll continue that
practice with the Amiga magazine when sub prices return to normal in the New
Year. Apart from that, the disk and magazine subs are entirely distinct.

10 pages on Okidata printer blues?? Sign me up. Seriously, would a long step
by step tutorial on how actually to use PrtDrvGen with, say, a coupla different
printers be for intermediates? (I am not offering one–I would like to read
one.)

Um, could be… it would be a little off our turf, since we focus mostly on
programming. Maybe when Joergen Thomsen gets back on here we could ask him for
an article on the theory and practice of printer drivers, with a sidebar or
something on how PrtDrvGen works and is used. I've never looked at PrtDrvGen,
myself – I rarely use hardcopy – so I have only a hazy idea about what using it
is like. I don't think we'd want such an article if it was no more than a
PrtDrvGen tutorial, but if it had redeeming programmerly content we'd
undoubtedly be more interested.
