Pagestream Report
3 messages in this thread
Jack, I just just finished reading the bug list posted by Ben Blish (by the
way, if you are reading this Ben please leave me some e-mail about your
hardway/software system to decode and display short-wave FAX. I have this
money burning a hole in my pocket, and I would love to start pulling in FAX
on my Ami). I thought I should let you know that I have imported 640×400
IFF images with no problems, and they print out beautifully on my desk jet!
(I bought the Desk Jet after seeing Pagestreams output.) I have a 3meg
2000, so Ben's problem may be memory related. Oh yes, my snap to grid or
guides works fine also, don't know what Ben's problem could be here. Most
of the other bugs I've run into have already been reported, but here is my
short wish list for the upgrade:
1. More Import modules: a. Aegis Draw format b. some of the more common
MAC and IBM formats (there is lots of good stuff out there in PD for MAC
and IBM DTP programs. c. ProDraw format
2. How about letting us use postscript fonts, there sure are alot of them
out there!
3. How about letting us set column attributes ala pagesetter. I recently
wanted to set off some text by placing it in a outlined 10% grey box with a
drop shadow. I did it, but it was an involved task. Choosing these types of
common column attributes from a requester would be much nicer.
4. Please, PLEASE, PLEASE!!, give us some well designed useful file
requestors (check out the one used in PIXmate).
Well thats it for now, but let me say that even though I now have to use
Pagestream with my can of RAID near by, I LOVE THIS PROGRAM! And in fact it
has inspired me to add a new unit (I run a program for gifted students
grades 7-9) on creative page design to my 7th grade curriculum. -Paul-
We at Syndesis talked to SoftLogik at the NYC show, and we hope to add
modules to our InterFont product so you can use InterFonts with Pagestream,
as well as InterFont text objects, and perhaps Professional Draw
converters, and other structured formats. Several other companies are
working on collections of InterFonts for sale. We just need the
description of their file formats, for fonts and graphics, or the hooks
needed for writing their load modules that handle graphics! So next time
you ask, remind them to get this stuff to us, we'll make more! As for the
pictures section, I thought the Amiga picture on the front was really yucky
– HAM garbage, gross colors, boring subject, etc. It was done with Sculpt
by Brian Galavan. If the rest of the Amiga submissions looked like this, I
don't blame Byte for rejecting them.
I'd like to put in a plug for Interfont to handle the complete range of
font options that PageStream and other programs use – for each font, there
are (often several sizes of) screen bitmap fonts, plus the PageStream
native dot matrix outline format, plus the downloadable PostScript outline
format, plus of course the associated metric and kerning files. The
PostScript capability would also port fonts over to the new PrintScript
program, which is sorely lacking in this area. I would certainly have
bought Interfont already if it had the DTP capabilities – I just am not
very involved with 3-D rendering at this time. On my last project with
PageStream, I would have used Interfont (or Pro Draw ported into Interfont)
to design a few symbol characters that aren't currently well supported by
PageStream. Joel
