Well, Pete, it's possible. I had a similar problem on my 4.2 motherboard
until I upgraded it myself to 4.5. So far, no problems. I don't know of
any compatibility problems with old motherboards, but stranger things have
happened. Oh, BTW, that's "SetPatch r" _not_ "SetPatch -r".

Do you happen to know where I can get hold of the ECO list to upgrade a
4.1 MB to 4.5??? About the "SetPatch -r", I meant "SetPatch r" but I'm so
used to putting '-'s in front of command line switches I typed it that way
in the message (still had to look at my standard Startup-Sequence to
remember if it needed the '-' or not when I made up the test disk ;^).

Rev 4.4: Noise coupled into RTC (Real Time Clock) osc.
Reroute sensitive circuit traces:
– remove trace from U801 p16 to Y800
– lift U801 pin 17
– add jumper from U801 p16 to Y800
– add jumper from U801 p17 to C810
[connection already exists – routing critical]

boards to work correctly with 256kx4
drams and Agnus 8372.
You may have given me a clue to a problem I'm having. What exactly was the
problem with the 256Kx4 DRAMs that they fixed with Rev 6.2, and would that
problem have existed under 4.4, given the board redesign for the 1M chips?
I ask because I am having difficulties getting a Hurricane 2800 board with
4 megs of 256Kx4 DRAMs to work under Workbench 1.3.2 with a Rev 4.4 board
that has the Super Agnus upgrade. The exact same board and boot disks work
fine on a (according to Imtronics, and a look at the board label seems to
verify) Rev 6.2 MB with Super Agnus. Also, that same board works on the
4.4 MB under 1.3 (that's what I'm running as I type). We've been trying to
track this problem down for a couple of weeks. The system dies if I run the
memory config program under 1.3.2, but not under 1.3. If you (or anyone
else) knows what the problem was, perhaps a solution might be found that
doesn't require a MB swap, which initial research tells me can be more
expensive than I can handle right now. Thanks …
The 6.2 fix was for something introduced in 6.0.

Rats. Oh, well, it was worth a try. I guess I'll have to give
Imtronics my machine for a day or two so they can trace what the problem
is. I just found out last night that Sonix won't run now either, though if
I turn the card off and boot from floppy it goes OK. That config program of
theirs must be trying to do some strange things … Thanks.

I added that to my sheet, except for the revision 3.9, since it isn't a
"production" machine! Not to say your machine isn't productive 8^)
My revision sheet is dated 08 dec 1988, so I wouldn't have the 4.5 and up
revisions.

I had much the same problem. A 2 meg memory board by Commodore and a 40Q
GVP hardcard wouldn't work in my 4.4 Amige 2000. Seperatly, yes. Together,
no. Typical errors were 3's and 4's, address error stuff. FInally, GVP took
pity on me and replaced both with a controller/memory combo with an 80! meg
drive. I would like to get more memory someday but I don't want to throw
my money away. Is there an upgrade policy for motherboards? Perhaps I could
just trade in my 4.4 for the latest and greatest revision, huh?

I am not sure what the policy is on changing mother boards. I think there
is one, but it isn't cheap – you end up buying a new mother board.
If that 2 meg commodore memory board is the 2052 (I beleive that is its
number – has a maximum configuration of 2 megs, not to be confused with the
2058, which can go up to 8 megs), it could be the problem – from what my
memory tells me from past messages on here – no direct experience here with
CBM memory boards.
