#multipleserial for 1000
4 messages in this thread
Can anyone tell me either if a) I can find a multiple serial solution for
the 1000 or b) there is something that can change m parallel output to a
serial one so I could put the ImagewriterII on this output. I am currently
running midi, telecommunications and the Imagewriter and would love to be
able to do at least two of these things at once. I understand that I could
add a toolbox and then a multiple serial card but this is a fairly
expensive solution. However, in this vein, I now have my extra memory via
an Alegra board on the side output. If I were to get the toolbox would I
have to trash this board or would it attach itself somewhere else? Thanks
You can get a parallel to serial port adapter to driver your IWII.
However, you will probably need to wire up your own cable to go from the
A1000 parallel port to the adapter. You should be able to find an adapter
for $50 to $100.

There is a company called Black Box that makes all kinds of converters. You
will need to use the special AMIGA parallel cable for an A1000. Check in a
Computer Shopper magazine too.
Barbara,
This "special" cable the others mention is simply a standard serial (or
parallel) cable with the power pins removed. You can cut them yourself
with strong wire-cutters. You need a "parallel-to-serial" adaptor, not the
other way around, as the cheap ones are one direction only. —Mike
