#HELP with HD file

I need help. My mother has an Amiga 2000 with an internal hard disk and
the system doesn't log it on any longer. The system worked fine until one
day… poof! It was gone.
She has a PC bridge board and expanded memory. I've looked and I can't
find a file by the name of "hddisk.device" which I think is supposed to be
in the DEVS dVS directory I accessed at the CLI prompt. All the other
files seem to be in place. Can anyone help me get a copy of this
hddisk.device file or else give me some hints as to what is wrong with her
system.
I know Macs, and I know PC's and I know a _little_ about Amiga's but I
haven't done a whole lot with them. They do seem to be a great game
computer though!
Help! Help! (Would _you_ want to have _your_ mother on your case? This is

hddisk and hddisk.info should be in the Exansion directory of her
boot floppy disk presuming she's booting from a floppy.

Don, Thanks for the response. I haven't looked in the Expansion directory
as her manual says it will be in the DEVS directory. She only has about 50
floppies and I looked in all of them. I have the HD.info file. It's only
the hddisk.device file that I'm missing.

It won't be called "hddisk.device", it'll be called "hddisk" and
the INFO file MUST also exist and be called "hddisk.info"

Just "hddisk"? No extension? I have a program called hddisk that
works as an install program but that's the only thing I see without the
extension.
I haven't figured out how I'm going to get this file copied over to the
Amiga yet anyway as she doesn't have a communications program.

No…no extension. Is her Amiga equipped with an A2090A by any
chance? That is…did it autoboot from the hard disk…or did it require a
floppy to boot?

Thanks! I haven't looked in the expansion directory. My manual says it
should be in the DEVS directory and I looked there in every floppy she has
(about 50 of them) and couldn't find a copy. I'll look in the expansion
directory later today.

the hddisk.device is in our libraries – I believe Library 6. And if memory
hasn't failed, it is called CAHD.ARC. You might try BRO CAHD* to find it
quickly.

Now all I need to do is figure out how to get a copy over to the Amiga.
I've got IBM's and Mac's. She's got the Amiga and no communication
software for it.
She's got a PC bridge board but I don't think it does me any good without
the hard disk running. I don't know how to get it to the Amiga side.

With a bridgeboard, you can move things across using the ARead and AWrite
commands. I have the bridge, but have had no reason to do that yet – but
it can be done, and our members are doing it all the time. Try it, and if
you need help, just tell us. BTW, to transfer binary files across, you
have to use the /b switch. Don't think that is documented.
