HELLUP!!! This is probably the wrong forum to get this info from, but I'll
give it a shot anyway. I just purchased a VGA monitor and can't get it to
work with my computer. Previously I used a Wyse 700 monochrome, and I've
been itching to try some computer graphics. Well, the darned thing doesn't
want to work with my system and I can't figure out why. I can boot up fine,
but it won't let me run applications. Yes, I reran all necessary setup
programs. And VP doesn;t work, even with the new screen driver. It might be
a conflict with the Perstor Hard Disk Controller (grasping at straws!). Any
and all advice is welcomed before I take a sledgehammer to this thing.
If you don't find any help here, you might try the IBMHW forum. They have a
section on monitors and you'll probably find a fellow owner of a WYSE 700
who has either gotten it to work or else might give you a deal on a used
sledgehammer <grin>.
You might be right about a conflict between the Perstor HD controller and
your VGA card. Many of the super VGA cards place their BIOS code in the
area between C000-C7FF, some even have extended BIOS code that runs out to
DFFF. I'm not familiar with the Perstor, but many HD controllers have BIOS
code beginning at C800. Check your manuals, either the Controller or video
card may have a jumper which allows using an alternate address. If you can
supply some hardware specifics someone here may be able to give you some
specifics. -Lee
