I've been pondering…. <dangerous! <grin>> Just suppose that we (The Amiga
Forum Members) decided to make it a point to call Lotus and Ashton-Tate
once a week for, say, a month. A small cost to us… unless they have
toll-free lines, in which case call they twice a week in perpetuity, of
course!
And say things like… I'd like 123/DBase for the Amiga. Who may I speak to
about this?
And… Hi… I'm calling about your DataBase program… how much longer
before we see an Amiga version?
Or… perhaps a general discussion of the merits of their program as
compared to others (from their point of view) IE get them to talk a bit…
and then ask how much the Amiga version is?
They've not been paying attention, methinks. Perhaps a large, motivated
group of Amiga users could tweak their nose.

Can we call FoxBase rather the Ashton-Tate? I mean, if you're after dBASE,
you might as well get a version that works. 😉
Other than that, it sounds like you might be on to something here.

I figure that by the time that AS gets around to porting to Amiga that
they'll have whatever out of date version we'd get working!

Might as well call Borland instead of Lotus too. Quatro-Pro is a truly
outstanding spreadsheet, I now use my BB more than the Amiga side of my
machine because of it.

We can also call FoxBase – I think that _business_ sees Ashton Tate… not
FoxBase, and whoever makes it. Further, should A-T jump in the Amiga
market, likely others might too.

I think it's a bad idea.
1. Do you really think a few weeks or months of calls, preceeded
and followed by silence would really presuade AT?
2. Even if it did…what if AT did the port, and no one bought it,
what would that do for the credibility of the entire Amiga market?
I think that AT is well aware of the size of the Amiga market, and
also of the chances for success should they port DBase.
No…if someone is really interested in AT porting DBase, then I
think that person should write a single well thought out letter and mail it
to them.

Yes – I do. I think everyone has been too quiet. Continuing to be quiet
won't change anything. Doing something may.
If AT did the port, and no one bought it, then we have it in our faces that
the machine can't be a business machine. And we find one that can. I have
no intention on riding a game machine for the rest of my born days. We need
_credability_. A-T and Lotus ARE credibility. WP is too – sorta – except
they gave us a half fannyed effort… while they stick 5.x all over
creation, we have a (buggy) 4.x – on what is _supposed_ to be a killer
graphics machine. Now, I know that WP hasn't been competant to do a good
job – heck they can't even make what they have work, much less write
something innovative – but that doesn't meant that AT and/or Lotus would
also do a shoddy job.
So, no – people don't write letters – mostly – it's too much crunching
effort. They *do* however pick up the phone.
