Folks,
Once again, here is how the "World Famous Impromptu Oldest A1000 on CIS"
contest works.
In Email, send me the serial number of your A1000. Those of you who have
already done so need not send it again.
Send me either a snapshot or digitized picture of your A1000 along with a
note telling me your feelings about the A1000 and what software you run
most. The address to mail snapshots to is:

Chester, Pa. 19380
I will be judging in two categories:
Oldest A1000 (by serial number)
Oldest LOOKING A1000 (from your pictures)
Thanks to Clint Woeltjen of VRLI, I have at least ONE prize and my boss and
I are working on getting some other prizes for the winners.
(forgot to mention this above….digitized pictures can be sent to me
through EasyPlex/Compuserve Mail)

I have a pretty old A1000, but it is neither the oldest, nor the ugliest.
I wasn't motivated to respond in view of my "ineligibility". I think that
like a car show or pet show, there could be more categories:
Most monster A1000 system
Least resembling an A1000
Least expanded A1000 system
Most flywires and hacks
Best paint job (I liked that AmigaWorld cover with the spattered mouse)

This whole contest idea came about from Trevor Laib's and Brian Bartlett's
question of which of them had the oldest A1000. I just thought it would be
interesting to see who had the oldest A1000 on CIS and it just grew from
there.
While oldest by serial number sequence is pretty straightforward and clear
cut, oldest LOOKING is purely relative to the other entries recieved. The
categories you mention that you'd like to see added has little to do with
age.

Hey, Dave:
Add a random drawing of all non-winners in the 'Oldest' and
'Oldestlooking' categories. That should bring the rest of the A1000 owners
out of the woodwork.

Now THERE'S an idea!
I'll convert my next 2 guru messages from hex to decimal, take the middle 6
digits, and the closest serial number in each category will win a prize!
How's that for a way to come up with a random number?

version of KMart) which might be considered as just as crazy a place to

I take care of my AMIGA, It looks pretty good. I had to return my original
AMIGA XM110????? as it had a problem and now I'm not close although I dis
purchase in Jan. 1986.

Appearance is purely relative to all the other entries.
On the other hand, you're not necessarily out of it as far as the serial
number is concerned. See my response to Trevor Laib. I will also be
awarding a prize in each category by random chance.
BUT, I'm not going to force you to enter if you don't want to.

OK Dave, I will. I send you my tower of power photo <grin>, my stack of
hardware is as follows from the bottom up:
Tandy 3000, Alpha Micro AM1000, VCR, AMIGA 1000 with starboard and
Cltd controller (not in case), and on top of all this is my floppy drive,
pc power supply running HD, HD, camera power supply, and 2 modems. Notice
that all this is squashing the PC . Hehehe. BTW, see my note in s10 about
the speech device sounding horrible on the A1000.

newest, the oldest, etc, etc. Seems kinda pointless.

Where exactly is the serial number? I think mine is an ex-development
machine.
Hey, I LOVE this contest (too bad I traded in my A1000 for my A2000; well,
maybe I should restate that!). I miss the old A1000; I used to live in San
Jose (near Los Gatos) and got my A1000 as soon as it was available. I used
to be in FAUG in Palo Alto, and saw a lot of interesting things first hand
(I even saw Jay Miner play with an A1000 in a Computerland store when they
were first shipped!) How about a contest for longest upgrade path? Mine is
VIC 20 –> C64 –> A1000 –> A2000 (and soon to be A3000 !)
Ed, I started with a Commodore 8032, but I was a late comer. There are
people on here who started with the PET with the chicklet keyboard.
