Is it possible to "dismount" a device once it has been mounted? I have a game that will only work with one drive mounted and its a pain in the but to unplug my external drive everytime I want to play.

Paul, There is not a way to do this =- at least, if there is a way, it is not documented. I've seen lots of requests for an "unmount' command, but have never seen any hint that there might be such a thing. If you boot from the game disk, could you just not mount that disk in the first place? ……Betty

Betty, For some reason I still have to unplug the second drive when booting from the game disk (Space Quest III). Mayby I can customize the boot disk somehow (startup-sequence?). paul

An off/on switch on the drive would help, wouldn't it? Some of mine have one, some do not. ……Betty

Paul, if you have a CLI prompt in front of you before booting SQIII, type: assign df1: remove or type df2: instead of df1: if you have a 2000 line machine. I don't think that's quite an unmount, because I don't believe it returns the device driver memory, but it hides the device. I remember I needed this when I wanted to reassign the ram disk to point to my hard drive. I had to assign ram: remove, then assign ram: hd:. — Ethan

Betty, AmigaDOS auto-mounts all the floppy drives it finds. The only way to get back the RAM used (which is why the game probably needs the drive not mounted) is to power down, unplug the drive and power up again. Peter_S (LeCroy Corp) "Software means never having to say you're finished"
