Mike, Thanks for the insight. I had the original DEC CP/M version of Multiplan, but found I never used it much and sold it about a year later. I hadn't followed it much after that, so wasn't aware of all the "quirks" you mentioned. Bill
#DEMM.SYS/ EMS Message #20882
From: Carl Rosen The DEC PC Forum · Utilities June 24, 1990 1:43 PM
I am using a 320, MS.DOS 3.3, with 2Mb installed. When I include the line DEVICE = DEMM.SYS 64 In CONFIG.SYS, Ventura Publisher 2.0 will not admit that there is EMS, and tells me to go get some, and aborts. When I delete the above line from CONFIG.SYS and reboot,…

Ah, but you are assuming Ami can't use that baggage of yours! On the contrary, there are 4.2, 5.0, and by now probably 5.1 (and possible 4.0 for that matter) filters. These convert your old files, with formatting to Ami and back if you like. I, too had a few…

Well, that's just one more advantage of this "obsolete" hardware: you can actually program it. You don't need to master a Toolbox or graphic environment. One of the reasons I'd hate to live with one of the new machines is that it's so hard to get them to do something…

Willett, The Rainbow Adaptation Kit for Windows 3.0 should be ready late this summer. And an observation about the baggage you say you're carrying: the file formats for Wordperfect 4.2 and 5.0 are fully supported in Ami Pro and Word for Windows through import/export filters. This means that you can…

Hard to find materials? If you mean public domain, there's gigabytes of stuff! Choose from CP/M-80 (most of it) CP/M-86 (a little) and RB-specific CP/M-86/80 (some here and more from Rainbow News, etc.). Read action !

Thanks. I'm probably not looking in the right place, but a quick call to my favorite city is probably the most time-efficient way to get it.

Thanks for the perspective and coparison. Ami sounds like its definately a better implementation. But I've got a lot of "baggage" already–namely, a 180-page manual to revise, hundreds of pages of academic papers under revision, and a WP-committed workplace. So I don't have the luxury of asking "whats the best…

John, A footnote: Because Winchesters can be partitioned into more than one "virtual" drives, pressing W ordinarily gives you a second menu asking which virtual drive to boot from, as in E, F or G. The utility that you used to partition the disk should have an option to let…
True. Kind of difficult to find materials for it these days, tho. Guess I'll have to write all the stuff I need (oh, sigh, tough luck, Dave). There are 2 Replies. Read action !

[con't from previous message] TSSnet's Network Virtual Terminal feature allows multiple logins and terminal sessions using the reliable DECnet link and any Amiga terminal program. This ability is unprecedented among personal computer versions of DECnet. TSSnet includes an emulator for the popular VT100 terminal. TSSnet debuted with rave reviews when…
