#4363 Meeting schedule Message #4477
From: Syndesis AmigaTech Forum · Ramblings August 4, 1988 1:28 PM
There is an interesting phenomena about computer writers. By natural law, it seems, if you are very qualified to be writing about something, you aren't attracted to the minimal pay of writing, so the good writers are few and far between. The technically literate writers must be doing it for…

The union extorted $20 from us to push our bus-boy palette from the door to the booth, with the promise that that included the price of taking it back out – of course, the union was nowhere to be found at show closing time, 5 o'clock. Someone told me the…

BbB has never been *out* of financial trouble. They've lost more money than any other company in the Amiga market. Remember Infominder? The PAL and PAL Jr.?

I'm not convinced the Sculpt 4D upgrade is worth the $200 they want if you're an existing owner, or the $495 if you don't have it yet… The betas I've seen don't have much beyond a new file requester. There's a new VideoScape-like painting mode that doesn't solve arbitrary intersections…

From: Syndesis Amiga Vendor · Syndesis August 3, 1988 10:42 PM
Believe me, I've been through it with them, over and over, to the extent that Creative threatened to sue me, because I had posted my (and other's) hypothetical explanations of the monopoly. They (both AmiEXPO and Creative) deny any payment of any form came from the deal. I must clarify…
#437 Turbo Silver! Message #484
From: Syndesis Amiga Vendor · Impulse August 1, 1988 6:10 PM
Yup, what I'd seen so far is a general 2:1 speed difference, in favor of Turbo Silver, plus the images look nicer than Sculpt. I've always found side-by-side renderings to be very interesting. Our Syndesis demo disk has a series of images from the older rendering packages, all of the…

What was the Sculpt time, on the same machine? Also, just to be fair, :-), we should try it with VideoScape 2.0's z-buffering or HAM modes.

Yeah, I do use the SupraFormat program, but didn't this time. It was supposed to work with either one. Oh well. I'm Amiga 1000 SOTS, too. No 500 or 2000 for me… just two A1000s.

Money Machine magazine. It's a magazine dedicated to doing business with your Commodore computer. No wonder they aren't very big. 🙂
#3526 Biblical Message #3533

So what are you going to do with the Bible?
#393 New IFF FORMAT Message #409
From: Syndesis Amiga Vendor · Impulse July 29, 1988 12:32 AM
I wasn't complaining about Silver's file format… If nothing else, I meant to show that different companies have different policies about changing their file format. The Sculpt people won't change at all, they want to preserve forward and backward compatibility in existing objects. That's their choice. This certainly impacts any…

I've got that data set, too, and don't recall the old/new status of the text. Do you collect data? I'm a pack rat. Do you have anything else, data-wise, to trade? Mine's on IBM format, but I can move/translate it easy enough.
From: Syndesis AmigaTech Forum · Other Languages July 28, 1988 1:40 PM
I don't think it was Ali Ozer. The name that came to mind for me was Alonzo, but I don't think it was him, either. 🙂

OK, I can think of another… Desktop Presenter in San Francisco. I write for them, too, along with AmigoTimes. 🙂 Florida-based? You don't mean Computer Shopper? And does Amiga Sentry use Pro Page?

Does Whap run on the PC? 🙂 Actually, I should get the new version, because I lost the last in my hard disk crash. Didn't have that partition backed up. Gak. Lost a few animations, too.

I'm sure he was referring to the booth-presence of another network, the one that starts with a 'P'. 🙂

Yup, the one with the wasp waist and red hair is perched on my modem. A recent beau picked it up for me at a card/gift type shop at a mall… Of course, my interest is only skin-deep. In the figurine, that is. 🙂

I haven't been happy with the seminars, either. I didn't even visit any at this show; though I hosted one in LA in January, it was supposed to be an overview, not a tutorial. The trouble is, they ask the vendors to do the seminars, which means product plugs galore.…
#377 New IFF FORMAT Message #389
From: Syndesis Amiga Vendor · Impulse July 28, 1988 1:26 PM
The "face list" stuff sounds like recommendations I made to Don and Byte by Byte many months ago – there is plenty of redundant information in Silver and Sculpt files. BbB said they didn't want to change their format, so my suggestion went unheeded, even though it means *significant* reductions…
#2880- AmigaBASIC 10/20 Bug(s)? Message #3223
From: Syndesis AmigaTech Forum · Other Languages July 27, 1988 8:53 PM
The guy who wrote the CSA Turbo Tower (68020 box) review in a past issue of Amazing Computing had hand-patched AmigaBASIC to run with the 68020 and the 68881, believe it or not. I have no idea on how to reach him, though.

From: Syndesis AmigaTech Forum · Whap! July 27, 1988 8:53 PM
You should look for the PD 'txt' program for the Amiga and the PC. It formats and re-formats according to the conventions of the machine it's running on, plus can do any translation when guided by command-line arguments. Almost so good I'd like to have written it myself.
#2878- Hard drive Message #3219
From: Syndesis AmigaTech Forum · Drives/Controllers July 27, 1988 8:53 PM
Hard disk woes time. The night before the AmiEXPO, I used the AmigaDOS 'format' command to clear the DH0: (two meg) partition on my Supra drive. I thought this command would work fine, and after the format, the drive's other 3 partitions were as normal. I loaded a few animations…

From: Syndesis Amiga Vendor · Impulse July 27, 1988 8:50 PM
I like profits more than the public. You can't eat fan letters. Even if the perfect 3D format were unveiled tomorrow, it would take another six months for the updates of the existing 3D products to change to the new format, if they really wanted to change, and then there…
#258- New IFF FORMAT Message #365
From: Syndesis Amiga Vendor · Impulse July 27, 1988 8:49 PM
I don't think this will fly as a popular 3D format, considering that it only applies to triangle-only-based programs, which boils down to just Sculpt and Silver at this time, ignoring Forms In Flight and the upcoming 3D programs from Gold Disk and Progressive that understand polygons with more sides…
#258- New IFF FORMAT Message #364
From: Syndesis Amiga Vendor · Impulse July 27, 1988 8:49 PM
Whoa! I didn't suggest making an IFF standard, I just suggested that you consider using something IFF-like for your file format. The regular Turbo Silver format was murder to program, especially with the rapid pace of "final versions" towards the end. I've looked over the file description, and will forward…

Syndesis will be offline for a while because we'll be in our booth at AmiEXPO in Chicago. If you are attending AmiEXPO, be sure to stop by and say "Hi!" AmiEXPO is the debut of our next product, called InterFont, which turns your 3D modeling program into a video titling…

What is it you want to know about Aegis Draw or Draw Plus? A lot of people have left Aegis vis-a-vis six months ago, I do know that some of the Amiga products have fallen on the shoulders of one named Scott Oranski.

Movie Message #1351
From: Syndesis AmigaTech Forum · Tool Box July 19, 1988 6:15 PM
It sounds like a bug in the Movie program, or at least the player. You rendered these in HAM, right? Perhaps changing the image size to Jumbo will help the problem. The trouble lies in the way HAM works… you're seeing a ragged black border because the background color is…

Probably not, it depends on the PD status of the objects I've converted so far. Also, I might just wait until we launch the AutoCAD product, just to make a bigger splash.

It connects to my local CIS (2400) node just fine. It enters "^P" on its own and the "G DEFAULTS" works, and it enters "2" to the first menu there, then it appears to die. The last thing I see in the little window is a menu that says "5…
#512 Whap troubles Message #791
From: Syndesis AmigaTech Forum · Whap! July 17, 1988 11:27 AM
I did read the docs, really. The docs only said it will "set up my parameters", it should have said, "it's going to go to Defaults and change your parameters, then send messages on its own, so don't be scared." The problem was, I noticed that the automatic guidance systems…
Whap troubles Message #510

I dl/d and installed Whap!, and came up against a few troubles… First, I noticed that if you don't have a phone number selected in the preferences area, and then click Get Messages to start it dialing, nothing happens and Abort doesn't get out, I had to reboot. Then when…

Yes, I was surprised by his cavalier attitude, too. Maybe the bigger you get, the less rules you have to obey. I mean, should Kahn's word be trusted with things like this, when he promises products that don't ship? Like Amiga Turbo Pascal?

I remain unimpressed by the ARP stuff, too, so whatever Ben says, I agree. 🙂 I'm thinking of writing a letter to AmigaWhirled, complaining that their recent article on ARP was long on hot air, and short on real meaning. I'm still not convinced of the utility of ARexx, so…

Turn heads? Did DigiView turn heads at COMDEX? Did Sculpt 3D? Yeah. They looked at the graphics and said Wow. Then they saw "Commode d'Or" above the booth, and yup, their head turned… right down the aisle. We've already delivered cool stuff that can't be found anywhere else, what good…
