Be sure to check out Amazing Computing. It's not fancy and rather thin (but they've only just released the first issue). The first issue contained more real info than all the issues of AmigaWorld put together and it has a great potential of becoming 'THE' mag for the Amiga.

Two of the 3 of my development machines have the rev 6 chip. But have been too lazy to look underneath for the serial number. 2 of the machines I got in early Sept — the other (with rev 5) in Oct.

Jez, no on both. The GreenHills info came from a msg left by Pariseau on BIX about 3 months ago. On the other, I haven't had a chance to talk to the right person yet — I'm in Denver and he's in New York and hard to get ahold of.

What the current plans are is to change the name of the 520 to a 260 and stick it in the mass merchandisers. Then come out with a 1 meg ST, call it a 520 and have it go to current dealers.

When not running under AmigaDOS effective i/o is 20k a second. Under AmigaDOS it drops to 10k a second.

Remember tho — you'll need an external power supply (probably about another $50 or so) and a case to put the drive in (optional but highly recommended unless you want to chance electrocution). You might bug Amiga Engineering about the pin outs — either they'll answer or they won't!

It can been done. What is needed is an external power supply and a cable to the Amiga end. I don't know the pin outs needed otherwise I'd have already done it (I have 5.25s on my ST — it's IBM data compatible).

With the hardware in the Amiga and the programmers relatively easy access to the drive this machine is really a flux copier. CP has no chance — you're right — it's a waste of time.

George, All that I am saying is that your ME.C, when downloaded with MaxiComm expands to 300k because of inbedded LFs.

When program size doubles because of the LFs then something is wrong. Someone with a 256k machine can't even begin to get ME.C to compile as the 184k file grows and a buffer size for ed needs to be set at 300k. * Reply: 2091

I haven't tried CrossTalk but I did try Mite. At 1200 baud Mite runs (under the emulator) at MAYBE an effective 300 baud. My favorite MS-DOS term program will not run — it's graphics oriented.

I use MaxiComm with the Rixon 212A. In order to get the program to work I had to tie lines 6, 8, and 20 together. The cable I'm using has pins 1-2-3 5-6-7-8 and 20 with pins 6,8 and 20 tied together on the modem end.
