>Is the dual drive setup for rendering to different drives or will we be able to split up >frames into fields for higher data transfer and hence higher quality images? No, it is for different drives. Stripping drives with different fields would slow down the data rate not speed it…

John; I saw you spend a lot of time with Rapture and the XAOS TOOLS guys, do you have an opinion of the program. It kind of looked like Pandemonium on the cheap. Opionion? Comment? Dave DPS

As for Dynamic motion module from Positron, it does way cool stuff. The head of the company writes the Toaster and SGI columns in AV Video and is very animation savy. If you want a version you should call and tell him at (402)493-6280. Ask for Brent Malnack. Dave White…

FYI, the longest video segment that the PAR can play back is 4:30 or 8192 frames. This is because of memory constraints and the 640K dos limitation. The next version that we are working on now using a dos extenterd to make the software limitation 36 minutes of continuous play…

We just tested it here and it does pre roll 5 seconds. I will check to make sure that the right version is up on the board. You would need to re-run PARINIT to have it take effect.

The next release version (version 1.1), will have the varible preroll gadgets in the preferences section. As for moving it to the front screen the plans call to move the betacam switch to prefs and put the GPI switch on the deck in its place.

#87471 PAR News Flash! Message #87689

It is also 500 megs formated. The new software release in Dec. will support 2 drives and after comdex you might have the drives you seek. For 24 minutes you are talking about 2.5 to 3 gigabytes of drive space.

It works with the Seagate 3600A, and now the 3655A from Seagate. We could make it work with a lot of other drives but the output would be like quicktime. These drives will consistantly give the data transfer speed necessary for 30 frames/60fields per second over several minutes. When reading…

FYI: The PAR does play back at 30 frames/60 fields per second! As for why to buy it over a traditional deck there are many. If you record the output of the toaster you are recording a composite signal to your tape. The PAR offers Beta-Cam/MII S-VHS and composite outputs.…

Just put my two cents in here. The advertised TBC in the 1970 is really just a skew corrector ala 3/4" Sony decks. The meaning of a TBC is that it correct's the lenght of the line of video not just the leading edge of video. A synchronizer does this…
I will be configuring six systems for 3D Studio. All comments would be appreciated about memory managers, amount of ram, hard disk space, rendering farms, etc. I see some people talk about Pharlap, is it necessary. What is the "Hottest" setup?
