John, thanks. No hurry! 🙂 -David
Gerald, see my other message to Thomas. There are many 3D animation programs available. Hardware: the faster the better. -David

Hi Thomas, Finding a good program for the PC isn't that hard, but on the other hand it is, since there are so many now! I use Imagine from Impluse. It's quite powerful and the price is very low compared to the features. But there is much more. 3D-Studio from…
Ok when I have more time I'll send some of my objects. -David
Yeah, but A:M is much more than Playmation. Thought I can get a spline modeller for little money -David
Is it possible to export from Playmation to DXF or anything like that? Maybe I could get a used copy and use it as spline modeller. >> Love those dolphins… thanks! I uploaded them some time ago to Graphdev (now there are here). I rendered them in TV res and…
What you want is very hard to do if not impossible. If you have a clearly visible perspective in the photo it might be possible, but it's going to be very hard. I once saw an add in a magazine (3D Artist Mag.). It allows you to build a 3D…
Hi Frank, first of all the computer is not the most important thing. A PPC would make things a lot faster, but what really matters is the animation program. To show the complex anatomy of a heart you will need a very detailed 3D object of a heart. You could…
Mitchell, check out Autodesk Mutlimedia Forum (GO ASOFT). -David
Hi Alvaro, you came to the right place. The best thing to learn is to do it. I started with a small commercial animation program and learned a lot from all the guys here on CIS. -David
Dean, I think you can get these kind of boxes in many computer shops. There are so many. Prices are in the $200 range. -David
So you didn't like the spline modeller from Playmation? Is it too limited? Is it too hard to use? Many programs claim to have spline modelling but there are huge differences. Some just have a few 2D spline options and the rest is triangles other use splines all the way.
>> Is there anyway to move animations on your computer to a video in a >> VCR? There are many ways. It depends on why quality you want. The easies way is to get a small box that converts your VGA signal to a video signal while you play a…
And it takes a long time till you have learned a new program only to find out that it's not as good as the one your using right now.

>> They will outperform an SGI with a single processor everytime Depends very much which SGI. Remember, they have the new R8000. -David
If you have RAW export it would be fine. If someone wants DXF there is a small Basic program that converts RAW to DXF. If someone wants POV there are a converters, too. But then it shouldn't be much difference between RAW and a simple DXF file that only contains…
Video is doing this since several years, no problem. Maybe this can be done completely in the video card. If they can do shading and rendering in the video card why not do these things, too. -David
>> Haven't heard if he was able to print them. hehe, that's his problem! -David
Hi Jeff, good to see you here, too! 🙂 >> One of the advantages to 3-D Studio is its expandability. and it's disadvantage, since you have to pay extra (as IPAS routine) for each feature. I think for the price of 3DS there should be more included. -David
IMHO the Intel Smart Recoder is not smart at all and slow. Check out DC1tv from miro. It does real 30 fps at at least 320×240 (higher in PAL mode, dunno about NTSC mode, but the card can do both). And Premiere comes bundeled with it for only $200 extra.…
no doubt, the DXF format doesn't offer as much as Imagine format. Unless they don't say no I'll upload both here and in the UG. -David
And since both fora are managed by the same guys (the GGG) it's wouldn't be negative to "advertise" files that are here. -David
What is the file name on the CD? I can't find the skeleton. -David
Just looked through all objects on the CD and couldn't find it. Maybe I missed it (I hope). If only I had more time. -David
Philip, talk to Blue Sky Productions in NY. They made the talking coffee bean commercial. -David
>> It's my hopes that we can bring on added HoF members to handle >> animations, yes here I am! 🙂 I've talked to Jim already about getting into the HOF team, but at that time he didn't need anyone. Remember me to him if you "see" him -David
If I understand Dave right he ment it for compositing anims. Or was that composting? BTW what happened to your 270mb monter image? Did you get your name in? -David
So it would be a temp anim only for further editing, not for play back? -David
Matt, I got Adobe Premiere which can play QT movies. Never tired the player only that is online on CIS somewhere. Premiere is a great tool and worth the money. I got it bundled with a video capture card. -David
Alex, as far as I know Alias 6 will be out in Jannuary. I agree with you it is probably the best high end package. But then I haven't used all of them only Alias, so I'm biased. -David
I have to admit that I didn't have the time to check it out so far. Have you? -David
I could upload ~5 mb per hour. That would be ~120mb a day. hehehe -David
>> If you have objects to contribute I'd love to see them there. That's the basic problem. Usually they don't want the same file twice in two fora. Now should I put it here or in the UG where only Imagine users will be able to use them (since they…
Greg, I have the Graphics alternative CD, too. If you want I can send you the object. I haven't looked at the CD at all so far, but now that I know there are interesting objects I think I have to take the time. to Michael: I have been doing…

Hi Matt, is Jim doing the HOF here, too? I mean the animation HOF? -David
I don't think it would be that useful. Imagine can (just like Polyray) output wire frame images and they are 16 color. So I thought I can make a 4bit fli from them, but then I never use wire frame rendering at all, so just forget about it 🙂 What…
>> especially through the contribution of 3D models in formats which can >> be used for animation! I could upload faster than you can ask CIS for new space thanks for the new section! -David
Matt, if it's not too difficult I think a 3D modeling Section is a good idea. -David
Hi Philip, pesonally I would get Alias. I haven't used SoftImage, tho. Softimage still has better animation control, but I'd say Alias is the better all in all package. At Siggraph I saw several motion capture system. Also some for the face. They had small reflectors on the lips and…
David, is it possible to do 16 color (4bit?) flcs? -David
#modelling section
Message #199
Hi Matt, I like the new forum. Just an idea: I think a section for modelling would be good. Animation also means modelling. Also one LIB where we can put in some 3D models. I know this would mean to change it again, but it's just an idea. -David
#bitmap to DXF
Message #198
just saw a new program in Graphsupport that reads bit map images and outputs DXF. Haven't d/led it yet, but many interesting. it's in Lib 15 (don't remember the name, but it's the newes file in there) -David
Good question. Don't know any program that does it. But the other problem is to find a viewer that supports animated GIFs. -David
Hi Adam, You can find many PAR users in Autodesk's Multimadia Forum, but I'm sure many will come here soon, too. -David
BTW, what did you change in the new DFV? Haven't looked at it so far, so if there is a whats.new file just tell me to RTFM -David
Mike, a friend of mine want's to get Imagine. Do you still offer the cross update from other 3D programs? Is the book modelling lab still available? -David
Hi Scott, thanks for your reply. -David
You will have a demo with a tutorial? Never seen that, but it sure is a good idea. A demo of a complex program without any docs is useless. BTW how has the modeller changed since the DOS version? Are there deformation tools? -David
Sheldon, you need a video capture board and a sound card. This card digitizes the video signal (while the sound card takes care of the sound). Then you make an AVI file from that (the software for that should be included with the card) and upload it. AVI is the…
>> bject formats are interchangeable with Imagine for PC, Imagine for >> Amiga, and Imagine L/T, so in this respect you have no problem. I heard that Imagine LT has no bones and states. So when you load an object with several states into LT… I guess it will use…
