Thanks Dave, You were quite right. The output settings got changed somehow. Alec Jason
Hi Jamie, Yes, I was trying to save an .avi file to my c drive. The new installation must have re-set the default drive to c instead of the par drive where it was before. A related problem is that when I enter the "Final Output Settings," and attempt to…
Jamie, Your BBS has been down every day this week. This morning I finally got through and downloaded the "d" version (although the instructions continues to refer to it as the "c" version). I tried to call your BBS this evening to leave this message but as usual, it does…

Hi Gregorius, I'm going to NAB. I think I'll be there on the 12th. I'm staying at Circus-circus-circus-circus. How about you? Alec Jason
Jamie, Your BBS is not working again. I tried several times this evening. Alec Jason
MeshPaint does sound great but shouldn't you be offering a discounted price for the pre-release version? Alec Jason
Paul, I hope you are right about getting the Wacom to work with AAP. Please let me know how you do it. Also, I've never been able to use it in 3DS either. Alec Jason
> Watch out, Paul. I have a Wacom and it doesn't work with Ani Pro either and Wacom is also not interested in making it work. Alec Jason
James, If I understand your question correctly, the best way to add frames between two keyframes is to define the segment (from keyframe to keyframe) and then time scale the segment to as many frames as you like. Alec Jason
#158861 Flashing Shadows? Message #159012
> AHaaaaaa! I knew it was you, Jack! Alec Jason
Hi David, Yes, I believe we are having identical problems — except that I haven't had any lockups. I'm surprised Jamie hasn't responded to my first message, he's usually pretty fast. I just got the official update disk and I may try re-installing the upgrade from it. I'll let you…
Hi Mike, I realize that the Razor upgrade should do all you suggested but the reason why I posted my message is because none of those things did occur. That is the problem. Alec Jason
#158767 #Flashing Shadows? Message #158817
Thanks very much for your offer to examine the file but . . . I re-rendered the entire animation from another camera viewport which has slightly different movements and it came out without any flashes. I have had this problem consistently with another file and if I have time, I'll…
#Flashing Shadows? Message #158705
Thanks for the quick reply, Jonas. My problem is not with flashing _faces_ but with dissapearing _shadows_. The affected areas are composed of more than one face and they are not the long, narrow types which cause flashing problems. I _think_ this is a different problem. Alec Jason
#158633 #PRO CGI magaxine Message #158691
Hi Jonas, What's the latest on "flashing shadows" ? I've been having problems during rendering in which a few frames are missing shadows. When played, the animation appears to flash when these frames appear. When I step through them frame by frame I find that areas which should be shadowed…
Razor Upgrade Problems Message #158497
Jamie, I downloaded the 1.0c version and since there were no instructions nor readme file with the zip file I just unzipped it into a subdirectory, went into windows, and did a "run;install". The process appeared to run correctly (although it is very confusing to start the process with a…

> No, $795 is not too much for an 8 gig hard drive but you are not selling a hard drive — you are selling software which, I think, is comparable to TapeDisk which sells for $250. I don't mean to be hostile but your price seems, to me, to…

#Parout Question Message #157853
Hi Gus, I have been using Parout successfully but I have noted one thing which could, perhaps, greatly increase efficiency. I have five machines on the network at the moment: 3 486's and 3 P90's. The PAR is on a P90. The "server" (with the PAR) will render a frame…

#157670 #Render-To-DAT Message #157705
Your software sounds interesting. I do have a SCSI Conner (nee Archive) Python DAT drive and I wonder if it would work for me because I don't assign a drive letter to it, it just shows up when I run the DAT software. I'm not sure if I could assign…

Kevin, I guess we're the last two people on earth using AutoSig. I've been using ATO at 14,400 bps with no problems for a long time. One trick is to set your comm speed to 19,200 — and it will work at 14,400. Don't know why, but it works that…

Thanks for the info on WinImages but how does it compare to Elastic Reality? I'm also a bit turned off on WinImages as they have convinced themselves that their failure to provide a written manual is, somehow, a great feature.

Don, I appreciate your advice on this question: I need to buy a VCR which I will use for "mastering" from the PAR. From this master, I make my VHS dubs. I'm thinking of buying a prosumer SVHS deck which would probably work fine for this purpose. But I'm also…

Bob, You've done very well in presenting Rand's points. I know from experience that it is very difficult to attempt to explain philosophical concepts to people who get their philosophy from a Thesaurus. I might add a quote: "What is the moral code of altruism? The basic principle of altruism…

Thanks Gus, I now understand the problem and I'm going to try Don's fix. BTW, I'm now using the 1.5 version of the Par software. I can't discern any difference between the v1.34 and this new one — other than the screen graphics. But one annoying thing keeps occuring. Each…

Don, I thought you might understand this: When I create a targa image in Photoshop, I specify the 752×480 size. But when I bring that targa into the PAR, it appears to have the wrong aspect ratio. I tried it with a circle, and the circle clearly looks stretched vertically.…

Jamie, I've been trying Razor and it is (I should say "will be") a fantastic program. But there are so many bugs in it that it appears to me that you are selling a beta release — not the final, production version. Most software developers who sell beta releases don't…

Greg, Aha! I think you're on the right track. I do have share running but something is probably set wrong somewhere. Have you got any ideas how share should and should not be setup? The line in my autoexec.bat file shows: C:\dos\share.exe /l:500 /f:5100 (with Qemm loading it high). Alec…
#150982 CPU Performance Hits Message #151052
Gus, The performance reduction in the cpu occurs with even one slave sitting idle. When other slave machines are brought on line, the hits are more frequent but something occurs every four seconds which reduces the cpu performance by about 90 percent. From my limited understanding of the mechanics, this…

Hi Greg, Thanks much for your response but it doesn't answer my question. My network functions quite well with all other non-3DS operations. File tansfers, etc all go smoothly and nothing else except the 3DS slaves draw down my server's CPU. I want to know what the idle slaves do…

Hi Jonas, I'm still trying to track down the source of some chronic performance problems. I have six computers (3 486/66's and 3 P-90's). Whenever even one machine is in slave mode (idle or rendering), the performance of the "server" i.e., the machine on which the "network" directory resides, is…
