#Amiga MIDI Message #17126
From: Allen Mitts Amiga Arts Forum · Audio/MIDI May 22, 1989 1:06 AM
Here's an interesting message from Roy Smith of Turtle Beach Software (they do MIDI stuff for the IBM) to Ray Lewis. Wasn't sure if Ray would put it up here, so I went ahead and did it. It's taken from the MIDI Forum.

A question was rasied over on the MIDI forum and I thought I might bring it up here and see what kind of input we could get. Specifically, how does copyright effect the transfer of digitally encoded music? That is to say is it legal to upload copyrighted songs in…

From: Allen Mitts AmigaTech Forum · C Programming August 5, 1988 8:27 PM
Creative Computers charges a restocking fee on returns? Hmm.. I didn't think they allowed returns except for damaged items and the like. If that's the case and they are charging to take back merchandise that was faulty or damaged then something is obviously wrong. I'll have to try and find…

Have you been to Creative Computers? They now have two stores. One in Santa Monica and another in the Redondo Beach area.

Just a note about Texture. The people at Sound Quest have aquired the rights to the Amiga version and have redone the MIDI interface routines so that it will work with any standard Amiga MIDI interface.

Jim, Is it possible to write messages/replies and then read new messages all during the same call? If so, how is this done? Thanks, Allen
Cursor back space Message #1624
From: Allen Mitts AmigaTech Forum · Whap! July 21, 1988 12:33 AM
Jim, I noticed in the editor that I can't move the cursor up to the pervious line last character with the left arrow or the back space key. Of course the mouse works fine for this, but sometimes it's easier to use the keys than to reach for the mouse.…

George, That does sound like a great idea, but somehow I don't think CIS is gonna go for it. They are in business to make money, and that sounds like it would cut everyone's usage down ALOT which means of course it would cut into CIS's gain quite a bit…

George, That's for sure (read better hardware docs than the PP2400)! Mine is a little 4-5" by 7" wonder of stapled sheets. You know, some of these companies (hardware and software) really should consider having some of their beta sites submit docs. Maybe we'd get more useful and usable info…

Oops, Sorry George, forgot to mention that the PP2400 does generate a DSR signal on pin 6 (at least the manual says it does). The Default condition (&S0 I believe) should do the trick for you if you have everything else (except DTR) set to the factory defaults. Let me…

Hi George, I was able to get my Practical Peripherals 2400 modem to work (with the help of someone here on the forum who left me a message about it). Here's what I did: I loaded up Access! (any term will work) and typed AT&F. This will load in the…

Well Henry, I dunno. I just downloaded your message (among the rest) while doing some kitchen work (downstairs) and everything worked fine unattended….this time anyway. I wonder if there is anything kind of timer in Whap! so that…say a five minute period of no action would cause Whap! to log…

Mark, I have that same feeling… I can just see the $$$'s rolling by as Whap! gets stuck by a CIS error or glitch somewhere. Nothing against Whap! mind you – I think it's a GREAT program, and very much needed, but it does scare me a little to hit…

Bill, Yap, that's what I found out as well. Very nice bit of programming I'd say! The thing that scares me about all of this is that I'll get comfortable with it and then per 'er on auto pilot and it will hang somewhere (while my bill soars higher and…

HI Jim, I think I've got the modem problem cleared up. I can now get online. But…. What is happening now is that when I get the main menu, about half way through it, Whap! sends (at least I think Whap! is sending it) a ^P and then types OFF.…

A couple of related (well, almost) questions here… Whlie reading John Toebes' text file on compacting C files he mentions a utility called STRIPA. It takes the debug code out of a working (thus no need for the debug routines) program. Problem is, I can't find that utility anywhere. Can…

Dom, I have used everything out for the Amiga (except Texture…I couldn't afford it either!) and I would say that Dr T's KCS (even with all my griping about it) is really the most useful for an experienced MIDI user. I did not like SoundScape due to its complicated user…

Rick, Good luck with your review. And let's hope that they take your constructive criticism seriuosly. I'm not sure I like straight ports. It seems to me that the programmer who does the port has to work extra hard to implement 'features' (or the lack of) in the port. This…

(blush) you kow, I hadn't noticed that before! But you are right. The L's ARE different (but that lowercase 'l' sure LOOKS like an uppercase 'L'). Thanks for pointing this out. I'll have to be more careful (or they'll have to change their type style ). Allen

Ben, thanks for illuminating this for me. You know, when I first saw that line ("intuition.Library"…) I thought it was 'funny'. Why is the L capitalized and not the 'i' in intuition. So I capitalized the 'I' and recompiled. That of course did not help, so I left it the…
