HI Jim, I think I've got the modem problem cleared up. I can now get online. But…. What is happening now is that when I get the main menu, about half way through it, Whap! sends (at least I think Whap! is sending it) a ^P and then types OFF. Of course this abruptly ends the session. Any ideas??? Allen

Allen, That is caused by a combination of the modem you are using and the modems CompuServe uses at it's nodes. When it happens it's only while large amounts textual (7 bit) data is being sent to you. It's not line noise in the normal sense in that it only happens during data flow, never while you are sitting at a prompt. I had the exact same problem with a CTS 2424ADH modem. I could never get it resolved. I bought a Supra 2400 and have not had a problem since. I occassionally fire up my CTS and the problem is still here. I don't know what to tell you other than complain to FEEDBACK. Next time you're in the market for a new modem, you might check out Supra. Best, -jcs-

Allen; I had the same "problem" with Whap!, but it turned out to be pilot error. I had not selected any Forum in Whap (Yellow Highlighting around the forum icon). Thus, when I hit get new messages, I assume Whap was signing on to see if I had Email. When I did not and there was no forum that Whap was instructed to search, it promptly signed off- smart program, careless operator.

Bill, Yap, that's what I found out as well. Very nice bit of programming I'd say! The thing that scares me about all of this is that I'll get comfortable with it and then per 'er on auto pilot and it will hang somewhere (while my bill soars higher and higher). Looks like Jim has taken that into consideration. Allen

Allen, Not entirely taken care of. It needs a drop carrier timeout. I would not run Whap! (or TapCIS or Navigator) unattended for longer than 10 minutes or so). Best, -jcs-
