From: CSA/CA Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Take 5/Want Ads May 31, 1995 7:37 PM
Alan, Thanks for early news on the Siggraph party location. What happened to the band? Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
#172818 col2mcs.zip Message #172904
From: CSA/CA Autodesk Multimedia Forum · IPAS Usage May 31, 1995 7:37 PM
Anne, Hmmm, I downloaded COL2MCS.ZIP right after your message re: moving it. Maybe I snatched it before the move and it disappeared after that? Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates

From: CSA/CA Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Take 5/Want Ads May 30, 1995 2:00 PM
Gary, I'm glad that you'll be able to get the Johnny Mnemonic sequences for the demo reel – then I'll get to see them. I backed out of our invite to the Sony screening due to the violence (in the movie, not the audience). Sent Peter instead. Kevin Krell -…
Camera Mapping – available from Digimation & their dealers. I believe list is $95. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
#171540 #Targa+ NT Drivers Message #171746
Michael, No change in status, and I have serious doubts of much support in NT (more likely a capture/output utility by someone like Mainframe Computer Graphics, or VideoTex Systems). Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
#171490 ANIMATION SERVICE Message #171510
From: CSA/CA Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Take 5/Want Ads May 23, 1995 4:09 PM
Spelling optional.
#171486 #Resellers/Internet Message #171509
From: CSA/CA Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Take 5/Want Ads May 23, 1995 4:09 PM
Murph, Our receptionist has gotten in the habit of checking whether incoming calls are "reseller" or "student". Too many calls were coming in from potential customers wanting 3D Studio plug-ins and tech questions, then asking for their student discount at the end of the conversation. It's more manageable when that's…
#171410 #Targa+ NT Drivers Message #171477
Michael, I don't believe Chuch checks into this forum – you should re-post in Truevision forum (section 6 of the MULTIVEN forum). But your answer is: none – no status. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
#171073 #Ani Studio price? Message #171288
Stephen, To "migrate" to Animator Studio, since you have Animator Pro, is $295 (lower if you purchased after 1-sept-94). You get to keep the Animator Pro. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
#170651 #Fantuzzi multimedia? Message #170772
From: CSA/CA Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Take 5/Want Ads May 18, 1995 2:03 PM
Gary, Anybody named to take over from Joe Fantuzzi? Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
#170522 SGI renderer Message #170604
Derek, The SGI renderer just uses the CPU. The Indigo2 does have faster processors available, and better chip cache. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
Garry, For Animator Studio, swap file should be 3x RAM; for AutoCAD – 4x RAM. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
From: CSA/CA Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Take 5/Want Ads May 12, 1995 12:41 PM
Wade, Bruce's message was posted at 1:58am West Coast time – you must be seeing that translated to your own local time. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
Mark, . Don't know, as Animator Studio only runs under Win 3.1, and I don't know how NT operates. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
Tom, Yes sir – 3x RAM (4x RAM for AutoCAD). I think the manual indicates this "to improve performance", but AASTUD really seems to require substantial resources for its intended use. Point is, if your FLIPPER errors go away, I will be vindicated. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
#169084 #POCO+Animator Studio Message #169165
Judy, No POCO or Animator Studio. Don't give up Animator Pro. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
Will, OK, your swap file is definitely too small. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
#169018 Animator Studio HELP! Message #169163
Cheryl, See my reply to msg# 169047. With 64M RAM, that would indicate a Permanent Swap File of 192M. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
#169026 Animator Studio HELP! Message #169162
Tom, See my reply to msg# 169047. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
Will, In my experience, the size of your Windows Permanent Swap file affects the appearance of the "Flipper" error. For 32M Ram, you should have a PSF of at least 96M (3x RAM). Now, do you still encounter the error? Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
#169063 #Back up the PAR ? Message #169160
James, Looks like TapeDisk does indeed take a "WORM" approach to access, leaving the previous versions of files intact, with directories as of that moment in time. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
#169050 #3DS on NBC Message #169159
Gary, Is this "Mad About You" one of Frank Foster's projects? I remember him running some test a couple of years ago with "Where's Waldo", AniPro & 3DS. Same concept. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
#168733 #3DS Info? Message #168847
I doubt the 800# Anne left you will help, since you seem to be using a non-North American CIS ID. Post your location, and we'll get Autodesk to post a usable phone for Autodesk's nearest office or representative. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
#168445 #Targa 2000 Message #168846
James, Truevision's preliminary specs show 720×486 for CCIR-601 for the component versions – T2000 PRO. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
#168101 #PAR video software Message #168105
Carlton, You can JOIN, REVERSE, PING-PONG without editing software. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
David, The SGI CD is in SGI inst format (uses the SGI installer software), and you'll need a CD-ROM with the SGI code. Now, Gus Grubba, here on the forum, may know if there's a way to cram to fit. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
#167729 Internet Access Message #167859
From: CSA/CA Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Take 5/Want Ads May 2, 1995 12:16 PM
Ana, Thanks for the info. I'm going to think on what I'm getting into. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
Carlton, The Targa+ board comes with an Animator Pro driver (probably ends in DRV) that goes in the directory with the other AAPRO drivers. If you initialize the Targa+ and set a resolution (say, 640x480x16-bit), then AAPRO's Set Screen menu will let you select Interlaced, Int. Live (overlay), & Non-int.…
John, My distributor still lists a Mitsubishi HC3925L9E (TK, I think) that is the lower scan rate, with the L indicating Long Persistence. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
Peter, I think the # is 4x your RAM, and you can use beyond that by setting the PageOverCommit in your [enh] section. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
John, I think Electrohome still makes a long-persistence phosphor monitor with the right specs. Barring that, I've got a demo Mitsubishi 3425L9ATK (14") that's just been sitting in my supply room since we had replaced with a Mit. 20". Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
Carlton, The Targa+ output is analog RGB. Does the monitor work down to a 15.75kHz horizontal scan rate? If not, then make sure your Targa+ mode is set to a non-interlaced mode (compatible with VGA frequencies). Best bet is to use the RDPADI for still renders (do VIBCFG for your…
Bill, Animator Studio should get a permanent swap file of 3-4x system RAM. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
#167516 Major Boolean Errors Message #167637
Gary, Hate to be a nag, but please watch those quoted messages, and remove the # sign. Otherwise, those old message #s drive the readers and message sorters crazy, particularly if any replies get attached. Pretty please? Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
#167362 #Mac & Internet Message #167624
From: CSA/CA Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Take 5/Want Ads May 1, 1995 12:27 PM
Ana, Plenty of other things on my plate, so you'll probably get there first. I believe I did see a provider with that offer, but, again, wasn't sure of Mac support. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
#Mac & Internet Message #167200
From: CSA/CA Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Take 5/Want Ads April 28, 1995 12:48 PM
Does anyone have any experience with accessing the Internet through a graphical Mac interace? One of the local providers in Los Angeles, NetCom, only offers a Shell account (command-line UNIX style access), and supposedly does not support being able to use something like NetScape after login. Are any of you…
#167167 ANIMATOR / ANIPRO Message #167198
From: CSA/CA Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Autodesk Animator April 28, 1995 12:35 PM
Charles, Animator Pro & ANIPRO refer to the same product (just shorthand). Call Autodesk's Multimedia Dealer Referral # @ 800/879-4233 & they can direct you to a local dealer regarding the software. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
From: CSA/CA Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Autodesk Animator April 28, 1995 12:35 PM
Bill, Got yourself a great big Permanent Swap File? This was one of the things that triggered the "FLIPPER" error during training. Probably not the only reason, though, as I'm sure you've already got one. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
#167101 Plug-ins Message #167196
From: CSA/CA Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Autodesk Animator April 28, 1995 12:35 PM
Paulo, Animator Studio is supposed to be compatible w/3rd-party Photoshop-compatible filters, not the ones included with Photoshop itself (Adobe proprietary). The Adobe plug-ins would probably need to be licensed by Autodesk (pay $) for them to be utilized. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
#167141 Animator Pro & Compaq Message #167195
From: CSA/CA Autodesk Multimedia Forum · IPAS Usage April 28, 1995 12:35 PM
Animator Pro resource errors are often a result of low conventional memory. However, if you do need a driver specific to the Qvision card, try asking Vibrant Graphics in Texas, U.S.A. Their phone # is 512/250-1711, or fax at 512/250-5811. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
From: CSA/CA Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Take 5/Want Ads April 27, 1995 3:00 PM
Bill, Is this the program from Seamless? Started out for ship-lofting in Canada, recently merged w/another co. under this new name? Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
#166949 #Convention risks Message #167061
From: CSA/CA Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Take 5/Want Ads April 27, 1995 2:34 PM
John, That's the way things used to be here in West Los Angeles when I was growing up. 20-some odd years bring us up to now, though. I'd join you, except I'm not fond of the colder areas of the country. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
#166855 Convention risks Message #166874
From: CSA/CA Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Take 5/Want Ads April 26, 1995 12:48 PM
John, And what happened to you in the "nice" neighborhood? Little old ladies serving you tea while they ransacked your wallet? BTW, the "nice" neighborhoods here (including the one I grew up in) have graffiti (sometimes ON the houses) and a number of teens with baseball bats and caps (but…

Dave, Just a note: Borders is owned by K-Mart, and should be rolling into more areas nationally. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
From: CSA/CA Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Autodesk 3D Studio April 25, 1995 12:48 PM
Gary, Remember to edit out the # from the message header when you're quoting previous messages. Gets a little confusing when they show up as new messages, numbered a few thousand back. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
#166569 Back up the PAR ? Message #166657
From: CSA/CA Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Hware/OpSys/video April 25, 1995 12:08 PM
James, Thanks for the info. While random access can be handy, I only need to do full backup at this time, and I can still restore marked files. TapeDisk sure sounds like it's convenient for file management, except for the config. hassle. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
#166561 Targa 2000 Message #166656
From: CSA/CA Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Autodesk 3D Studio April 25, 1995 12:08 PM
Ana, Truevision has been an interesting, though sad story, for the last 2-3 years. Rasterops tried to absorb them, or kill them off. Now, Rasterops is flagging, and Truevision is their last hope. Their act is very slow getting together. The T2000 Mac is a good product, and it's easier…

#166484 #Targa 2000 Message #166516
From: CSA/CA Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Autodesk 3D Studio April 24, 1995 7:31 PM
Gregory, T2000 pros & cons: I suggest waiting if you can for the PCI version, or even utilizing the Macintosh version. Currently, it is not that easy to configure a PC for the throughput that the DVR architecture of the Targa 2000 allows. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
