If you use a custom screen, you get our colors. If you use a Workbench screen, you get your Workbench colors.
You need V1.4. The easiest way to get it is to contact DataFlow in Australia.
You can get V1.4 for $4.00. Call with a Visa or Mastercard # or you can send us a check. $4.00 includes new disk and postage to you.
Print Density bug?
Message #38927
We are getting ready to offer Volumes 3 and 4 to all registered FC owners. You can take advantage of that offer. If you still want Volumes 1 and 2, since you had a problem getting registered, you can still get them. If you call, say Woody said it was…
I know this may be a pain, but here is what you should do to get registered. Ask the person you bought the program from to write us a short note indicating his ownership of FC was transferred to you. We will remove his name from the registered user list…
Regarding getting the latest version: We must have received your reg. card in order to notify you of any upgrade. If you did not send in your card, a proof of purchase (sales receipt) will do. The latest version of FC is 1.3.2. There will not be a major upgrade…
If you have sent in your registration card, you can get the update by sending us four dollars to cover the disk and return postage. Is the slowdown you're experiencing occuring while FC is printing and you switch to some other application. If so, FC and the other app (if…
Also, you may have some trouble if you have V1.3 of FC. We discovered a couple of insects in it and the latest version is 1.3 rev 2.
Try a few different printer drivers, and make sure your printer prefs is set for PARALLEL. I used to have a 1091i and I believe I used the EpsonX printer driver with it. BTW, 2.0 is a good thing to do for any reason, most applications seem to crash much…
Final Copy, like any application running at priority 0, will use a lot of horsepower when it is "doing its thing." You may notice a slowdown while FC is printing, and you switch to doing other things. However, if FC is dormat (running but not doing anything,) it will Wait()…
Sorry I haven't checked in for so long. Things are very busy here, and I'm sure you'll appreciate what we've done when you get a chance to see it. B^)
It's hard to say what might be crashing the machine. Setting the printer settings causes all types of code to be run in the OS. We would need to know more information about your printer, computer set-up, etc. About 2.0: ADOS 2.0 is _MUCH_ more stable and we developers recommend…
Thanks, Bob. We got your letter today. Sorry I haven't been on CIS much recently but we're doing a lot of work here *GRIN*. I have captured the msg and will investigate. Pat Brouillette SoftWood, In.c
Newer version of FC?
Message #37652
The latest version of FC is 1.3 rev 2.
FC 1.3 currently will not scroll to the right as you type.
Final Copy can import WordPerfect documents, but not export them. If we get enough requests for this feature, we may do it.
Final Copy version 1.3's major revision is that the appearance of the fonts on-screen has been GREATLY improved. The honestly look 100% better now. The changes to V1.3 were more of an enhancement than a bug-fix, so we're asking registered users to send in $4.00 if they want the upgrade,…
The latest version of PenPal is V1.4. If you have a 68000 machine, you will want the upgrade before moving to 2.0. Just send us $4 to cover materials and return postage. Pat Brouillette
Importing into Final Cpy

Have you tried changing the ASCII I/O preferences in FinalCopy? Woody
I don't have a real good response to your comments about upgrading or not upgrading Pen Pal. Originally, the program we were developing that eventually became Final Copy was intended to replace Pen Pal. As the project proceeded, it became clear that the new program would not have everything Pen…
Thanks for the suggestion, Bob.
Mike, thanks for the report. We will look into this right away.
Hi Ron. Thank you for the encouraging words. As you probably know we cannot use trademarked typeface names. We considered coming up with longer names, but decided to just use a one letter approach. The typeface "T" accesses "Times Roman" in a laser, "H" gets Helvetica, and "A" gives you…
Someone else recently reported a problem using the Expert mode of the Installer. If you were using the Expert mode, try the Novice mode. You can also do it manually. The things that need updating are the program and the FCFonts drawer.
Hmmm. I don't know for sure what happened. I have a feeling that a memory "bug" during printing with version 1.1 could be the culprit. Once you get version 1.2, see if you have a similar problem. In the meantime, I would appreciate it if you could either upload the…
Whoops! There was supposed to be a disk in that disk mailer. I will make sure it gets mailed to you tomorrow (Monday). Woody
Mostly just to keep things simple. I like your idea of an Update script. Perhaps next time… The rotated text will be treated as a graphic object. It can be moved anywhere on a page, and have text flowed around it. In its unrotated version, it could be used for…
FC 1.2 updates are mailed automatically to everyone who purchased FC from SoftWood, or who mailed us their registration card. We have already mailed yours, I believe. Each week, as new cards come in, we will mail FC 1.2 to those people. Our font engine supports rotated text, but Final…
Make sure you tell your friends. *wink, wink*

I suggest putting all of the PSFonts in the same drawer with the other five outline fonts. That is, put them all in the same directory. FC will search that directory, independent of path name, for the requested fonts if it doesn't find the font specified by a specific path.…
We plan on packaging several fonts for Final Copy in the near future. They will come in volumes and be sold at a very reasonable price. Much more reasonable than the other font volumes out there for the Amiga.
The most current version of Pen Pal is V1.4. You probably don't have it. If you want the upgrade, you can send your Original program disk to us, along with a couple of bucks for return postage.
It's O.K. to re-name any of the font files for Final Copy, just remember that if you take your document to another person's machine, their computer is going to balk on the font names you use in your documents. It is not a recommended practice. Also remember that the files…
I wish you hadn't said that. Final Copy can NOT use PostScript fonts, it just contains a disk of outline fonts that are similar to the ones found in the ROMs of most PostScript(r) printers. Whooo boy! Please re-inform your user's group that it can NOT do this. But also…
Font volumes for Final Copy, when they become available, will be VERY reasonably priced. We couldn't believe how much people are being charged for them now, we will most certainly charge much less. Our font code is the quickest I've seen so far. I ran a comparison test, creating a…
The SoftWood outline font technology is proprietary ( see earlier messages in our conference if you want to know why ). It also sounds like you haven't found the 25 additional outline fonts located in the "PSFonts" drawer (search around for them, they're beautiful)
I believe we're still selling SoftWood File IISG, it's a simple database that supports IFF pictures and sound. If you own Final Copy, it can handle as many graphics as you have hard drive space for, so you may want to consider creating a document that has "links" to every…
Believe me, I want good software for the Amiga more than anyone. With Final Copy, I think we put the Amiga on top for printed output quality, possibly only being surpassed by the Next (because it does EPS). The Amiga needs everything and anything, but SoftWood is committed to producing…
For reasons currently beyond our control, we are going to be doing DTP next. But don't worry, it certainly won't be a waste of time. We intend on designing something super-human. You know, today was the first time I tried using ProWrite. I couldn't stand it, waaaaayyyy too slow. I…
Mainly just more mainstream productivity software. Our immediate plans are on a DeskTop Publishing program. From there we will probably do and update to FC, adding a lot of neat stuff. After that, database, spreadsheet (which I can't wait for) and other areas where the Amiga sorely needs good software.…
On the HP, set the page height to 747 pixels. and choose "Auto Feed" somewhere in Pen Pal's preferences. I'm not too familiar with PP, but I think that should work.
Actually, columns themselves were a late-added feature. We wanted to support column/page breaks, but it was one of those little things that seems simple but would have required a re-design of our internal data. A future version of FC should have a lot of that neat stuff, but for this…
SaxonScript does not handle the "get" operator, and FC depends on using it to create PostScript code that executes quickly. Creating a async printing process is nearly impossible, because each document's data is tied to the Window structure, we would literally have to duplicate all of the data internally, to…
Try inserting a page break.
Whew, there was a lot of stuff there, along with a lot of '>'s, so I've captured the msg, and will answer the questions I can. Graphics printing async: Each window (document) is a separate task in the OS. Let's say you're working on document "Cheese juggling contest". To print…
The fonts in the "PSFonts" drawer have so far lead a cloudy existence, most users that have called in are actually unaware they exist and can be used for output to ANY printer, not just PostScript(R) ones. In our free upgrade we will attempt to make this quite clear. In…
For legal reasons, we can't publish the spec for the Final Copy font format. Proper Grammar will be updated to handle FC documents. Upgrades are usually free provided you send your original disk and $1-2 bucks for return postage. We had invested in our font format long before the 2.0…
The latest version of PenPal is V1.4, if you send your disk in and enought moula for return postage (hold on a sec…drat, couldn't findd a FedEx chart) that should cover it. Can you send a SAFE (self-addressed FedEx) in the original envelope? Anyway, send you're original PenPal program disk…
We definitely intend to release many additional fonts, just not sure when yet. We've got a few things to work out with the type foundaries first.
