** AutoCAD for sale ** Message #148594
If anyone is interested in a nice, brand new, in the box, version of AutoCAD release 13, please drop me a line and we can discuss price (not sure if I'm allowed to post it here). I've currently got AutoCAD Re.10 but will upgrade it to Re.13 (CD-ROM or floppy),…

Jerry, Wow when did this all happen? The Screamer looked like it was going to seriously alter the "SGI vs. everything else" balance of power. A friend of mine who is a PC devotee was even considering switching to the Amiga/Screamer combo for rendering. I've been anxiously waiting for some…

Jerry, I'm a Mac user who is interested in the Amiga but has never tried Lightwave. I have also never used the SGI programs…. So what can I contribute to this conversation? Hmmmm… Well last summer a dealer here in NY hosted a series of in depth demos by Alias,…

I am a mac user who for the last year has been evaluating faster platforms for doing 3-D. I was impressed by Seaquest and B5, but did not really consider the Amiga until the Screamer was announced….. Anyway I know very little about Amigas, or Lightwave, and If anyone can…

> Hey nice machine! I am looking at SGIs myself. I am sure it must take a LOT of geometry to slow down the Indigo2's 8 geometry engines, do you have any idea how well some of the others perform (i.e. Indigo R4000 XZ, or Elan)? I've seen some of…
>>>I agree that the engineering of the Indy seems very good. I just don't expect it to be all that successful in finding a market.

Dietmar, I was just curious bout your comment regarding AutoCAD under UNIX. Is it very buggy? I've used thier Mac version, and it has a number of bugs. I am curious because I have been considering purchasing a UNIX workstation (Indigo or Indy probably) for CAD and Rendering, but if…

John, Good point about SGI's hardware shading. I saw one of their Onyx machines doing a nice textured fly-through of a small town at the Spring NCGA, but for high-end software rendering (Renderman etc) you need the kind of fast CPU math performance that the R4000, R4400 (and Alpha) provide.…
#Alpha VS. Pentium Message #49137
So, what do you all think about DEC's new Alpha based machines? I recently saw a bunch at the PC expo here in NY, but unfortunately they were demoing them with a windows paint program so it was hard to get an idea of overall speed (would have liked to…

Thanks for the reply! It is sometimes difficult to get clear infomation about the different formats. I am also looking into the possibility of translating my files to CCIR601 format for direct transfer to D1. I have my own S-VHS frame-by-frame recording system, but am interested in doing broadcast work.…

Keith, Just curious…. Do you know of any video houses that can transfer from CRV to 1" or Betacam (without you having to bring in your unit)? I have also been curious about the resolution of these units; can your output be broadcast? Thanks for any info… Charles Brush

Kevin, Thanks a lot for the reply! I got the DOS software when I purchased the system last summer. My question was really about the dual monitors, and you have answered it. I guess we will have to get a Targa sometime. By the way…a while back you mentioned that…

I am currently in the market for a transcoder, and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I have heard that the Grass Valley unit is good, but I have little information on it (price? Does it have component outs,YC358,etc.). I have also heard good things about the Yamashita Engineering…
#6438 S-VHS Deck? Message #6792

Just tossing in my two cents: If you eventually want frame-by-frame capability you might consider a JVC BR-S811U S-VHS deck. They are currently selling for around $3700 and work quite well for frame-by-frame recording (they are frame accurate and have a solid transport). Charles Brush
