'Small' Network
Message #192977
Claus, Thanks for the response. I have read the 3DSNET.TXT file and am reviewing other material, but it always helps to get the opinions of people who have actually done it/doing it. Will stay tuned. Thanks again Marty
'Small' Network
Message #192448
Hi there, We are a mid-size A/E firm that utilizes 3DS. It appears that we will be expanding our operation to include 2 3DS machines!! (Finally!) My question- What is the best approach to networking these machines to take advantage of the network rendering feature. It is possible that we…

Jonas, Wishes for archiving……? Gather up the custom pallete image file as part of the ZIP file. Caught it before I lost it, but surprised it wasn't part of the ZIP. Thanks Marty
Box & Face Maped Mat
Message #189205
Andy, Display all lines on the geometry and try Modify/Edge/Turn on the offending edge(s). This is the "dotted" line that is shared between faces on a plane. I believe we had a similar problem and this may have helped, if I remember correctly. Hope it helps. Marty

#Displaying faces
Message #183996
Doug, As far as deleting the faces, don't hold the mouse button down. Select the vertice and release the button. Move the mouse around and you should see the faces that share the selected vertice "highlite". When the face that you want to delete is highlited, click the mouse button…

Memory errors with 3DS
Message #182882
Terry, I missed (I think) the first part of the memory problem msg. I also had an Mfree error similar to yours. After some trial and error – and help from Greg Pyros here on the forum – I tracked in down to a "bad" shape imported to the shaper.…
#Mfree error
Message #180707
Greg, I was able to eliminate the Mfree error by combining your suggestions along with some guesswork on my part. I eliminated the shape with the problem vertices, then re-imported the shape. Originally the shape was created in ACAD ver 12, so the DXF was readily available. Everything appears to…
Mfree error
Message #180539
Greg, Thanks for the response, – figures, I guess that's what helps (makes (g)) us learn. I will try as you suggested and report back. After playing with it over the weekend, I came up with the following: Moving *almost* any other vertices than the ones selected, did not give…
#Mfree error
Message #180065
To all, We are an Arch/Eng firm utilizing 3DS, and have received an error msg, which we are not familiar with. The error occurs while moving selected vertices in the shaper. The system appears to lock-up, however, I can use the F keys to switch modules. The cursor disappears when…
James, For the Meshpaint Demo, I used my Mat. Ed. module to "play around" with the demo. Set MP3D_I.PXP as a user program in your 3DS.SET file, and then acivate with the pull-downs. As a temporary setup, it works fine to evaluate the program. (which is pretty neat!) Hope this…
Joe – Your welcome, and glad you were able to get it to work. Now that you mention it the camera viewport does ring a bell. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, a spotlight VPort will also render shadows? I'm not able to check now, but try it. Marty
PMJI Joe, but I think in order for your trees to cast "tree" shadows, you may need to use a 1 bit opacity map along with the tree texture map. The opacity map will cast the shadow, not the "tree" or the rectangle. I beleive Phil's book for ver 3…

Have you had any luck finding a 11×17 plotter? The Canon BJ230 is 11×17 with 360 dpi. The Canon forum had adriver that works well with the device (BJCAD1.zip – I think) Good luck
