Doug, Isn't marble just limestone subjected to pressure and heat? So unless there's much chemical change, it should be dissolved by the same acidity that dissolves limestone in Karst terrain. ? Anne
Andy, Does that area have an underlying limestone formation? That's usual where you get true sinkholes. Another thing to check would be if city sewers or water mains run under the property – if there is a leak, you can get underground washouts that look like sinkholes. Another possibility is…
