#32734 Wanted: Amiga Laptop Message #32839
Vic, I just returned from a week long business trip and took my new Amiga 1200 for use in the hotel room. Hooked it up to the SpectraVision box at nite and computed away. I wish they had made it with out the numeric keypad so it would have been…

Alladin 4D
From: Robert Coates Amiga Arts Forum · Animation January 26, 1993 9:47 PM
Yes I have Aladdin 4D. It does slow down the rendering but I'm not sure how much. You can go through a gas it just doesn't show up once the camera is inside the defined volume :-(.

I haven't worked directly with Imagines Fog objects so can't say. Though several people at my Graphics SIG who are Imagine users say the fog objects have numerous problems and they rarely use them.

Gases are areas defined by a single polygon (rectangle) they can then be shaped by texture maps. They are great for creating suns, planet atmosphers, galaxies, flames, rocket flares, etc. You can control the color, density, turbulance, and definition of the gas. You can also animate the changes or the…

Paul, I have Lightwave and still use Aladdin for somethings because it is easier and faster. It also has gases and surface morphing available. In addition to creating DCTV anims directly.

Peter, It will read and save .geo format objects. You can use Pixel 3d or Vertex to convert other formats to .geo then read them into Aladdin. —Robert—

Chris, Aladdin will read and save the .geo format ( believe that is Videoscape?). I have succesfully converted Imagine and Lightwave objects using Pixel 3D or Vertex to convert them to .geo then loaded them into Aladdin. Supposedly Pixel 3D Pro will support the Aladdin (Draw4D) format directly. —Robert—

Great to hear Mike. Do you have any images or anims you could upload. It bugs me that all the stuff you find in the file sections are Imagine or Lightwave. Also I'd love to hear any tips you have learned. –Robert–

Steven, I have used Aladdin for about a year now (since it was Dras 4-D Pro). I found that it was the easiest to get the hang of (tried Imagine 2.0 but the learning curve was just to steep for my patience.) The only trouble with Aladdin is the manual.…

I've done some flying logo type stuff for a video for my company. As well as played around with the typical SF type space scences. Am currently working on an office set animation for a marketing video. I output to DCTV usually a DCTV-3 as I have no single frame…

Lee I use Aladdin 4D and would love to see some sharing of experiences and learnings. Still a beginner in the world of 3D but find this package very encouraging of budding ideas. —Robert—

According to my dealer NewTek has stopped shipping Toasters for two months. No word as to reason shy. Latest upgrade? A4000 compatability? Something even better? If anybody knows I'd sure love to hear. If it is a upgrade or 4000 compatibility they better offer a very reasonable upgrade path for…

From: Robert Coates Amiga Arts Forum · Audio/MIDI December 4, 1992 11:34 PM
Jim, I have used Aladdin since the Draw 4-d days. I find it very easy to setup the textures and rendering. It works great with a DCTV. Yeah I would love to have Lightwave to but unless they unbundle it from the Toaster its still outside my price range. BTW…

Jim You can use other format objects with Aladdin. It will read .geo files (old videoscape format I believe). I have used a number of Imagine objects after converting them to .geo with Pixel 3d or Vertex. –Robert–
Disk Recorder? Message #78909
From: Robert Coates Amiga User Forum · Classified November 23, 1992 9:42 PM
Frank I might be interested in your laser disk recorder. Have a few questions though. 1. How old is it and what kind of condition is it in? 2. How many minutes or frames can you get on a disk? 3. Are the disks reuseable? 4. Do you know if…

Ben, I have Normal 4 Way selected in the compose/coposition controls/set blend/other options panel. Is there something else I should set? I tried it with the scale blend set to various numbers as well to give the script a starting point. But those attempts merely give me ten frames of…
