I believe the telephone directory is available on two CD-ROM disks, one for Eastern U.S. and the other for Western U.S. They cost about $999 each or $1900 for the pair. I suspect it's a lot cheaper to use Phone*File here on CompuServe (which I do often). – Dick

It IS a jungle out there. So far, the only genealogy CD-ROM disks available for sale are from Automated Archives in Salt Lake City. I have a couple of their disks and have had some success stories with it. There lots of rumblings about other companies offering disks "real soon…
FYI: We have one of the Trantor Parallel port to SCSI adapters on a Zenith 386 laptop at the office, it works well. Running off the parallel port is much slower than a normal SCSI controller, but given the slower inherent speeds of battery-operated CD-ROM drives it doesn't seem to…
