If your terminal program is in VT100 emulation mode then you have the benefit of highlighting on screen, etc. If you ever get connected to Usenet you'll really appreciate the advanced capabilities. Otherwise, in "Dumb TTY" mode, your computer is just scrolling a stream of ASCII up the screen; in VT100 mode incoming data can be "placed" in different spots on the screen. The capture buffer will still look terrible, but I've written a UEDIT macro that will strip out the codes, converting some of them to LineFeeds, and some to Hi-Lite On/Hi-Lite Off, so if you read the capture buffer with MuchMore everything looks nicely formatted.
