Hi – Thought I would manage to let *this* CP discussion go by without adding my 2-cents, but since EA is sitting in for a while … (welcome, Jeff, please realize that any flames from me on CP are not directed at you personally). I had a chance to talk with Bing Gordon (EA, VP of Marketing) at a C-land sponsored demo of Deluxe Paint. I asked about H.D. installation/CP, and was told that the CP used is indeed of the "key-disk" variety. He (Bing) opined that putting CP on Deluxe Paint was indeed ridiculous, and that EA would consider other alternatives if customers demanded it. (Fine words, them!) At that point, several people said they would pay DOUBLE the price if they could purchase an un-CP'd version … I think that perked his interest somewhat! Anyway, if the VP of Marketing feels that way, maybe a few phone-calls would be money well spent (I'd suggest calling Trip's office directly … talking to Sales Support or whatever probably *is* a waste of time). I'm pleased that you recognize that I OWN the s/w after I buy it. That means I won't be doing anything illegal by disassembling it and zapping the key-disk-checking-code so I'll be able to install it *properly* when I get a hard disk. Yes, I was *very* impressed with the program, so much so that I broke my own rule about not buying CP'd s/w, and bought it … the fact that Bing knocked off $10, and threw in Financial Cookbook made it seem like a reasonable deal. Of course that was when it was supposed to ship on 12/3, and was before Bill Volk told us about his Aegis goodies (I *will* be doing future business with Aegis … dunno about EA unless they change their CP policies).
